Pearl Harbour Saturday 4th October 2008 Pearl Harbour was worth the hour and a quarter bus ride. It was quite moving. We did feel a bit regimented by the US Navy personnel who take visitors out to the Arizona monument. One cannot take anything on the tour and drinking, even water, is FORBIDDEN, in respect to the thousand plus crew whose bodies were never recovered from the wreckage!!!??? However, the memorial is a sobering and fitting tribute to those poor souls and the documentary film pays due tribute to the genius (as well as the horror) of the Japanese attack, probably the most successful air attack in WW2. One thing bothered me greatly, however and that is that oil is still seen escaping from one of the hatchways of the wreck (which lies in very shallow ... read more

Greetings from the other side of the world. After 1/2 an hour delay in Adelaide we finally took off around noon, 4 1/2 hour flight to NZ was uneventful and fun. Two hour layover and then enroute to Hawaii, another 8 or so hours in the air arriving at 7:15am on the same day we left..........virtually no sleep on the plane, its very hard to sleep sitting up. As we arrived so early our room wasn't ready so we had to wander around until lunch time. Severely jet lagged so we had to have a little nanny nap. Headed off to find somewhere for dinner, Cheeseburger Paradise looked good and it was. Most restaurants don't have any windows as there are no flies, mossies or moths in Hawaii. Back to the hotel to crash for the ... read more

We arrived in Vancouver on an Air Canada Flight. The plane was delayed, as they are, and we were very tired when we arrived. Flight smooth but in flight entertainment yuk. It would have been better if I was six inches taller to see over the seat in front of me. it didn't matter, Dead Poet's Society....what century were we in?? I guess I didn't miss much. Tried to sleep and thanks to those pillows Jae, they helped a lot. Vancouver is stunning. Such a beautiful place. The weather has been hot. Yesterday we went sailing on Jon and Gerry's sailing boat, "Allonsa~y" (french for "let's go") We Started in Howe Sound through the Gap and out into the Georgia Strait which is part of the Pacific ocean. The weather was so lovely there was ... read more

I'm baaaack! So, as promised, I'll keep you guys posted to whats going on out here in Hawaii. Lets see... I survived my first week of work.. (the most hours I've worked in a week in over 3 months :) ...) So far, so good. The company is really great and everyone is really friendly. I found a place to live. The pictures below are of my initial residence upon arrival. It was right in Waikiki (near where we were this summer)... but too much $$$ so I've since moved (today) to a new and better location, just outside of Waikiki- (less tourists!!) So I'll post pictures of that later. Nothing much else to report- Enjoy the pics! Miss you all. Allison... read more

Lion dances, street fairs, fireworks, plus 2,008 performers (per event!) in Beijing, all for Ashley's birthday!! I tried to capture some shots of the cute little kids as lion dancers, but darn them, they just wouldn't stay still, and my camera doesn't have an action setting. The opening ceremonies of the Beijing olympics were playing, but the stubborn rain and tar-y smoke from some Chinese cigarettes made it hard to appreciate. Lucky for me my mother taped it all so I could watch it from the comfort of my own couch. Or maybe it wasn't luck, it was just the auspiciousness of the day...... read more

Granted I'm only 24 (it's not too late to send birthday presents, in case you forgot), yet I see more and more of my peers resorting to the unthinkable: internet dating. Not that there's anything wrong with match.com, if you're ugly and have no social skills (no offense Adam), but we're so young! Isn't finding that one perfect match the reward of years of torment making the wrong choice? However, I digress. The point is, my friends who have gone on dates with people they meet online always report back that the profile picture of their computer Casanova is grossly deceptive. And I do mean gross. One friend in particular mentioned her disappointment that her own honesty in profiling herself was not reciprocated. She felt that the portrait of her 35 year-old match should have been ... read more

Before it was time for me to go home, I decided to see two good friends again on Hawaii. We spent, like in Vancouver, a great time together. We visited two other Islands (Kauai and the Big Island) and we did our first parachute jump together. AMAZING !!!!!!... read more

San Francisco is a very nice town, similar, in a lot of ways, to Perth. Our hotel was just by the gate entrance to Chinatown. The weather was cool and the wind cutting to the extreme. Fran had kicked her toes on the foot that she’d had a broken toe on and she was hobbling somewhat, but soldiering on bravely. In addition to this handicap, she felt like she was coming down with the flu. The inevitable red bus tour took us around the sights of San Francisco, down by the Fisherman’s Wharf, past Alcatraz and then towards “THE BRIDGE”. The Golden Gate Bridge is massive and high. The tour guide said that conditions were fairly good on the bridge that day. Hmmm, we thought, with that cold wind. Well the wind started to strengthen as ... read more

As the official tester for the devices that Tim is working on, I must've heard "welcome to kailua" over hundred of times. It's the most haunting voice after hearing it for so many times, esp at 2am in the morning :) Good news is that we are now writing to you all on a happier, much more relaxed note! For a solid week Tim's day was filled with work, eat, sleep (if he's lucky, he gets abt 5 hours of beauty nap), maybe on an odd occasion he was allowed a little dip in the crystal blue ocean that we've missed so much. But I am proud to announce that they've met the launch date successfully and now crazy enough to launch Maui too. (another island that's 3 hours ferry ride from Honolulu) Nevertheless we spent ... read more
