Niketown
Before it was taken down. Here is where we met for the group run June 13 Usually, I wait until the very end of the day to type my blog because I am always hoping for a little more to write about. It’s 3pm here and I’m ready for sleep….I think today is over already.
I was surprised that it was as easy as it was to get out of bed this morning. But by 8:10am I was out the door on my way down to Niketown for their Saturday morning group run. It’s about a 40 minute walk from my house to Niketown - there’s a giant golf course in between my house and the Waikiki strip so whichever way I go, I have to walk all the way around it. The sun was already super hot, and the skies were clear, and I was excited to have a new group to meet.
It’s pretty cool. They have a tent set up outside of the store and a lot of people who participate in their runs. It’s free and they provide water and snacks afterwards. They also have routes planned with different distances to turn around at. I chose the 4.7 mile distance because 1). No one was running the 7mile one
today because of a local marathon tomorrow & 2). I’ve got blisters on my toes from all of the running, walking and hiking I’ve been doing. I was the only new person today, so one of the guys who runs the club ran half of it with me. I finished the 4.7 in 44 minutes (which was pretty good considering all of the people lining the streets for the parade I had to dodge through on the way back).
While sitting and snacking afterwards, I met a few locals. One woman named Terri, who has got to be in her 60’s, shocked me by telling me she’s part of the Harrier House Hashers - the drinking/running group that I wanted to join. I guess that this club is in every country (around since the 1930’s). She and her husband have been doing it for quite a while and she invited me to come along today. I was so excited, but the thought of even more running was exhausting. The deal is, you pay $5, bring your own drinking cup, go for a 1-2 hour jungle/forest run usually, then drink beer for hours afterwards. It really sounds like a crazy
experience..you get nicknames, and have to go into the circle on your first time, stuff like that. So I said sure…I’d go. I’d have 4 hours to recover before she picked me up.
The Annual King Kamehameha Parade was scheduled to begin at 9:30 and I was excited to be able to experience this local event after the run, but as I’m discovering here…things move at Hawaiian time. I think it finally started coming down the street around 11:00. I hung out and watched it for a while, but it was hot and I still had to walk home, so headed back early.
Once I got home, it hit me. I was exhausted. My body aches, my feet ache, I’m tired, sore, and I feel like I’m getting sick. As much as I wanted to continue being the “Yes” girl today, I think it’s better that I take a break and sleep. I’m writing at Safeway right now. Just finished updating yesterday’s blog and now finishing today’s. I called Terri and explained that I wasn’t feeling so well. Hopefully I can go with her next time. I think I’ll rent a movie from the redbox, grab something to eat,
and walk back up the hill home.
Before I log off for the day…I played with Google Earth and figured the rough mileage I’ve walked since getting here (not counting my hikes). Wow…for me 47 miles by foot in 5 days is a ton!!! (Heather….I’m feeling for you & your 3 day coming up)....
Total Mileage: 47 miles

I'm really thinking
The BIKE would be a super investment, even if you just gave it away when you left.!!!!
