The Sun Welcomes Us to Miami
Published: March 7th 2011North America » United States » Florida » MiamiAminta and I landed in Miamia at 5:30am. We'd survived the red-eye flight, but neither of us got as much rest as we'd hoped. Our spirits picked up, however, when we stepped outside the airport and breathed in the warm, humid air. Stasa picked us up. She was thrilled to see us, and the excitement was contagious, but she was also suffering from a lack of shut eye. We immediately began conversing at a million words a minute, and the talk didn't stop until we pulled into a gas station. I felt clueless when both Aminta and Stasa exited the car (what, does it take two people to pump gas?). They informed me that the gas station is where you get your Cuban coffee. Skeptical, I followed them into the small convienence store. Sure enough, the ... read more
Stasa took us for a drive through Wynwood District in Miami. It's a Puerto Rican neighborhood that is very poor. It also has the most amazing graffiti art I've ever seen. We drove through a dozen streets that were covered in stunning portraits. Apparently, the art changes all the time, too. Here are some images from our drive. My favorite is the tattooed Mona Lisa.... read more
February 25, 2001 This is Marvellous Miami. Actually Florida has been super. Weather is superb. We arrived in the Tampa area and stayed at a campground that was a waterski, wakeboard cable lake. Tons of adults and kids either going rounds and rounds hanging onto a cable in a lake getting towed. Very much like a rope tow in snow skiing. They did jumps and basically got out of the water with arms 6 inches longer, I'm sure. The other lake had a boat or 2 going round and round in circles teaching jump skills etc. Apparently they create alot of World champion water skiiers. It was interesting to see it work. Thats as far as we went. Watching!! We met up with our friend from Mexico, Chuck in Tampa. Spent some time with him. It ... read more
general thoughts on Miami (no glam pix)
Published: February 25th 2011North America » United States » Florida » MiamiMiami 24 Feb. + One of the main things I hate about Miami is that, although the bus can get you around generally, it nevertheless can be a long way to go anywhere, especially if you are in a cab paying for it! The Greyhound is in a godforsaken place off a very busy thru-road virtually at the end of the airport runway in an industrial area really. Nowhere near anything! I had planned a route to get close enough on the Airport Express bus form Miami Beach a few streets N of my hotel – and got there, it was on the opposite side of the road, and then decided to take off – I think it was on time and I was 5 min. out on my timings. As I had a $5 daily ... read more
midnight rambling in MIami
Published: February 24th 2011North America » United States » Florida » MiamiMiami - 23 Feb. well after midnight and transport connections to get tomorrow to get down to Key West for a couple of nights - more on that later as a bit tortuous to organise, otherwise it woudl not have been as cheap - think $200+ a night! top season etc. Anyway unlike yesterday Tues 22nd (least said the better as did not much at all) today at least got out to Everglades in the morning and did the airboat thing and saw some crocodilia/alligators - see pix for brief detail. Then back to the city for some pizza then uptown in Beach a little and saw the Miami Fillmore and visited the Jewish Holocaust memorial - then bussed over to city ($5 magnetic pass for 1 day is easier than having $2 for each ride ... read more

So we enjoyed these nice holidays, we went to the beach and visited Miami : during a lot of days we went to the beach to swim, explorate the underwater world with wonderful fish, beautiful submarine vegetation (slime). We went scuba-diving in the Grove Scuba - Miami's PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center (if you're interested to exploring the sea and to this nice sport ;D). We also went surf at the beach and it was awesome ! But I was very hopeless, my friend was better than me at this sport... (if you're interested to this surfing club: www.liquidsurfandsail.com). Then, we left our hotel and Miami downtown to gone to Key West for about 3 days, in South of Florida. This little city was gorgeous and funny: there were chickens which were walking in ... read more

A description of the hotel
Published: February 18th 2011North America » United States » Florida » MiamiIn Miami, it was just wonderful ! We stayed in a luxury hotel : the « Fontainebleau Miami Beach » hotel, it was gigantic with a big swimming pool, it was nice because the hotel owners were great and generous. I would have prefer a B&B but my friend wanted to have a big hotel and by the way, I don't dislike tuxuary hotels... But the human relationship with the owners is not the same that in a B&B but, here, we were luck because the owners weren't like other owners of big and luxury hotels...... read more

Published: February 21st 2011North America » United States » Florida » MiamiMiami-Cayamo 13 Feb. + posted 21 Feb.in Deco District, Sth Miami at packed Hostel to get it off my hard drive - no time for pic edits at this time so later... Obviously there has been no blog due to outrageous cost of Net on the ship (70cents per min.) – via satellite and not v fast it seems I had neither the time or inclination to do anything. I was here for the music not compulsive blogging after all! Rewind to Miami – left Orlando at 9.30am on 12 Feb. Greyhound – and after a TSA type security full open bag check (on the ‘Hound??) – with confiscation of open Southern Comfort – also joked about their potential worry about Cuban terrorists – and the guy pointed out he was Cuban – foot in mouth ... read more
