There are shifting shoals, shifting goals and always the boat shifting on its mooring. Just when you think you've got it figured out, something changes...and changes again. For some of us, blogging has the feel of time shifting. Past, present continuous and future perfect all get rolled together when we're trying to make a coherent report of our activities. It seems that wherever we are, we start taking root. There's always a bit of us left behind with new land friends, old friends visiting to make new memories, and new cruising friends who loop in and out. There's also quite a bit left behind in the literal sense, as we drop things off at each landing. We continue to weed out our storage, supplies and equipment, hoping to make things run a little smoother. The Marine ... read more

Published: April 20th 2010North America » United States » Florida » MiamiMiami, Miami, Miami This weekend, I took off for Florida, for the first time ever. In the last year, my two friends whom I lived with in Ghana, Margaret and Romina, and I have started a project we named (with the help of my mom) Agbogba Computers, The Innovation of a Nation: Ghana (ACTION: Ghana). For this project, we are aiming to supply the primary school we volunteered at in Ghana, St. Joseph’s Agbogba Anglican Primary, in the outskirts of Accra, with enough computers so that they may effectively teach information and communications technology classes to the students, as well as keep a record of who goes to the school and the grades they receive. As of now, the school has over 500 students and not a single computer. While there, Maggie and I would watch ... read more
Tour of Miami and Fort Lauderdale: Little Havana, Little Haiti, South Beach, and Las Olas
Published: February 3rd 2011North America » United States » Florida » MiamiWe were able to spend this day with my sister, brother-in-law, and niece. We first stopped at Total Wine (http://totalwine.com) to see their large collection of wines and beer and settled on trying Key West beer (which I would say is comparable to Blue Moon). Then we headed towards Little Havana and lunch at Versailles. I got the Chicken and Yellow Rice Imperial, which has mayonnaise, peas, pimento, and a hard boiled egg. Not too bad. Worth noting: you have to specify you want a fountain drink if you want to get free refills. Otherwise, you get a can of soda, no refills, and it costs $0.25 more… After lunch we went to Domino Park and did some exploring in Little Havana (http://www.miamiandbeaches.com/visitors/little_havana.asp). We were also hoping to experience Little Haiti (http://www.ci.miami.fl.us/nets/pages/LittleHaiti/LittleHaiti.asp), and although we seemed ... read more
I just came back from Miami and I had a blast. It was my spring break and even though it was a little cold I still enjoyed myself. My friends and I spend most of our time on South Beach. We went to this amazing restaurant called Mango's Tropical Cafe. I called it the Spanish version of coyote ugly but a hundred times better. They had the best food and I finally tried a REAL mojito. Delicious! The employees were dancing on the bar to the spanish music and I even danced myself. There are tons of things to do in Miami and I am mad I didn't get to do all those things. I went to a website which is southflhotspots.com and gave me a great insight for things to do while I was in ... read more
I suppose as this is my first entry, I'll start at the beginning; I'm a twenty-two year old who is recently (ish) single, nearly a college graduate (one more internship!), new-found homeowner, loving mother to two cats, full-time (sometimes way over full-time) employee with a crazy itch to travel. I want to see everything and experience what new places and people have to offer. Feeling tired of constantly telling people of all the traveling I would someday do, I booked a spur-of-the-moment solo trip to Miami about a week before I was scheduled to to fly out. It marked what I hope is the first of many adventures to come. Ok, I realize you may be rolling your eyes and thinking "Big deal, it's just Miami," but I'm hoping you're more of my my mindset, being ... read more

So I arrived in Miami to spend one night on my way to carribean islands... My surfer, Aljandro didn’t answer the phone when I called from the airport so I was a little worried. Luckily I had another number for another surfer, Andrew. Andrew, an American, saved my butt. After a long bus ride, carrying my 60 plus lbs of gear, Andrew picked me up from a strip mall on the corner of something and something. Luckily a nice girl on the corner let me use her cell to call him. Miami was FREEZING and way less convenient them my SWEET Colombia - god how I would miss that heavenly place... Andrew was formal and nice, we had some tea, pizza, exchanged stories, and went to bed. He had to work the next day so ... read more

Made to Miami about 12:00 today. Followed my buddies on Triumph and EZBreezes. They knew an anchorage next to the police station and a little park. We are going into town in an hour or so to go to the Publix and maybe find a bar for a nice big brown ale. Publix is the Ukrops of the south. They are everywhere. I will probably be here in Miami for the next few days. Heat exchanger still leaking a little but managable. ... read more
