Well the drunk guy just left our hotel room. Dorothy let him in, NOT me. How can that be you ask? Let's begin with how difficult it was to find a room near downtown Denver during the Cedia convention. Not easy! I took probably the last room available at the Ramada Inn. The train goes downtown the person in reservations told me and then you can catch a cab to the hotel. After we landed in a thunderstorm (I was okay, thanks for asking.), we started looking for the Information Booth so we could figure out the quickest way into town. I asked the nice gentleman with the orange vest on, who was standing behind the information desk, how two people could get into town. "Can we take the light rail", I ask. (This is where ... read more

We spent the morning hiking around Zion. We walked the river and saw the weeping rock. Then we drove and we drove and we drove thru Utah, ended up in Vail for dinner. They were celebrating Octoberfest, instead of Lederhosen & das Dirndlkleid, there was lots of Uggs & Prada. 628 miles of travel in the day, 1,082 miles total. 9E to 89N to 70E to 6E to 25N.... read more

Hello Friends! It has been a while since we have sent anything out, but this past week we were able to attend the Democratic National Convention and I have some pictures to share. Mike and Linda (Sean's parents) came to Denver last weekend to visit and to be apart of this exciting politically historical time. They were so kind to find tickets to Barack's speech and then hand them over to Sean, myself, Katie, Dana and Richie. Mike and Linda stayed home with Cecelia to allow Courtney and Dave to come, too. How lucky we all are to have such selfless people in our lives and to have this memory forever. The event was incredible. The crowd was sooo excited and proud to be apart of this great country. The speeches and performances were also incredible. ... read more

I arrived in Denver with chronic toothache. After getting myself to an emergency dentist who gave me a prescription for a whole load of painkillers, I could finally take in my surroundings. The drugs prescribed were expensive and strong. Tylenol - that famous US painkiller. Even though I welcomed the pain relief, it still seemed frighteningly easy to load myself up with pharmaceuticals. After a pill popping night, and waking up in probably the largest bed I have ever slept in , I marvelled at the perfectly clear blue skies, and set off to explore the city a little before heading out. Before we had driven 10 blocks the skies opened up and the rain came down hard. A reminder of how changeable mountain weather can be. Cars were brought to a standstill and abandoned on ... read more

Have enjoyed Denver- it's really nice place. There's a free shuttler bus which takes you up and down the main street - very frequent as well! So yesterday it rained a lot! We had breakfast at The Denver Diner then got our bus ticket to Colorado Springs- did loads of booking thigns on the internet in the hotel and went to the gym adn pool. We'd got soaked in the morning in a very short whicle so we couldn't really walk about much. Did make it to the Capitol building and could see the mountains for the first time but then it rained lots. Went to an Ethiopean restaurant in the evening which was really nice. Today, sunday, we were going to do a day trip to Boldre but the weather was supposed to be terrible ... read more

Returning to Colorado has proven to be a continuation of my grand adventures, and a nonstop inspiration for insights. Its when I return to home-base; my world of familiarity that I really am provided insight into what happened while I was away. As I fought armies of traffic and navigated the concrete jungle of cherry creek, I finally made my way to the mall. As I stepped into the seemingly diamond studded structure before me, the mixed aroma of Cinna-bon and perfume greeted my nose. I am home. Standing, in what for me, represents the the cornerstone American lifestyle, (consumerism that is) I was forced to question what I really thought; what I have learned from living abroad? Is this the good life? This, this rapid, class divisional, economy based society that races before me. Am ... read more

Am typing this in the Business Centre at the Hilton Garden Hotel, Denver- it's a bit over our budget but as there are quite a few dodgy areas in Denver according to our travel guide we thought it best to be downtown! So the internet is free and there's a gym and pool! Anyway back to the story - we got to Chicago Grand Union Station about 2 hours before our train was due to leave as we didn't want to pay to leave our bags at the hotel, as it turned out because we were in a sleeper car we could wait in the first class lounge which had free drinks and tv. Our sleeping compartment was not really a room but it coverted to two bunk beds quite ingeniously! The staff really lokkk after ... read more

Well, we're officially underway. We had everything loaded up in DarkStar and were ready to leave the Rochester area by 4:00 PM on yesterday. Ian and I drove straight through the night and reached Denver a few hours ago, where we're staying overnight at the house of a friend of his. That was a long drive, taking us about 30 hours, running between 65 and 70 mph. I drove the first 5 and a half hours, then Ian took over. I got behind the wheel again a little after 3:00 AM, and drove for another three hours or so. Somewhere east of St. Louis, we drove was a lot of lightning, and drove through on/off rain for a while. Ian mananged to take a number of neat pictures through the windshield of it, plus whatever else ... read more

Hello from a Mile High in the Sky-or at least the 6th floor of the Hotel Monaco. We're in Denver, which was an interesting drive in from I76: It sort of made us long for the beauty of Nebraska. Then, 18 miles outside of Denver, Bam!, neighborhoods. I drove into Denver and probably scared John to death-people really drive in a different way here than any other parts we have been in. So,I publicly apologize to the guy in the little red sports car who pulled out in front of me; how was I to know that everybody in Denver does that? We were worn out by the time we got to the Hotel Monaco and stopped by their restaurant for a late lunch while we waited to hear from John's nephew Christopher to arrange a ... read more
