So, I'm getting ready to get back in the saddle! I'm hoping to be off to Cape Town tomorrow, via the circuitous route of LA to Sydney to Joburg to Cape Town. Assuming that I can get on all these flights. Ah, the joy of traveling standby! Anyway, between my last update and this one, I've completed my second circumnavigation! From Cape Town I flew to Joburg and on to Perth, Australia, where I visited some family friends for about a week over Easter weekend. The biggest surprise of Perth was warm beaches! I'd gotten so used to the freezing Atlantic in Cape Town that I almost couldn't handle the wonderfully comfortable Indian. With the warmth, however, came the jellyfish, and my friend Jonathan (who had moved from Cape Town to Perth about two weeks before ... read more

Denver 27-06-08 Thursday. Arrived at Dallas at about 2 pm but it took 1 ½ hours to get through the red tape and another hour to get to Dallas so we have not had much time. However we walked to the Kennedy assassination site and the Kennedy Memorial from the West End Downtown Hotel. The hotel is changing its name to Crown Plaza. Tomorrow Mexico after a good night's sleep. ... read more

Heading east to Albuquerque NM, we’ll hang a left toward Denver. On the road for another very long day of driving. We were very late leaving Williams and made a stop in Flagstaff so our travel time began about three hours behind schedule. Crossing another time zone back into mountain time, we took a vote and decided to stop short of our goal. We spent the night in the parking lot at, where else, WalMart in Trinidad CO, just over the border. Just one more thing, my husband has a history of consistently bringing rain with him on trips. He visited Phoenix for a week 6 years ago. It rained for 7 straight days. This trip to Arizona it poured rain on us at the Grand Canyon and it rained on us in Flagstaff while we ... read more

Spent first full day in Denver at the aquarium and looking around downtown. It was hard to pull Macayla away from the reptile petting zoo outside of the aquarium. She was able to handle all snakes and could pick them as she pleased. Very surprising that it was allowed but the guy running the petting zoo said he had raised all the snakes by hand since they were babies and they were all very friendly. We also went to the Cherry Creek arts festival and spent a lot of time browsing, watched an artisitc performance and ate Greek food. Had a good day for the most part.... read more

So Many Options, So Little Time After a quiet evening, I wake up to a slight drizzle. I look outside and see several people running by with numbers on the front of their shirts. I realize I could be running in a 5K. I am motivated to get to a gym. I look at my invites for the day and realize that the Baby Shower is 2 hours earlier than I thought. I attempt to drive around all of the activities and events in downtown to get a gym, I give up and head back to the Monaco to get ready for my days events. I take a quick look in the mirror and realize that this road trip has taken a toll on my skin. I NEED a facial! No time for that. The ... read more

Phase 3--Who Came Up With This Roadtrip Idea? I wake up early in Grand Junction and the weather is still as foul as my mood, since the Lakers lost the first game of the series. The grey clouds allow me sleep in until 8ish. I had to get downstairs for my free breakfast at the lovely Hampton Inn. I t was a brand new hotel with incredibly comfortable beds. The free breakfast was a large buffet. I would consider staying in one of these again. Since I am making reservations while I am on my way there, doing research of places to stay on my trusty phone, it worked out very well. Well that good ol' global warming/ extreme weather theory has been put to quite a test here in Colorado. Since they had such ... read more

Well the travel blog is set up and this is the first entry. T-minus ten days until I leave the country and I wouldn't say I am too nervous or apprehensive... yet. I washed all of the clothes I own over the weekend, and packed up my new backpack a bit. Still more shopping to do, loose ends to tie up, but right now I am just trying to make it to work every day and look busy for one more week... ok i guess I am a little nervous and excited.... read more
