We arrived in Denver quite early, when the morning rush was in full force. People were going to their jobs and we were rolling in to town to be tourists. It was very cold out and windy, so walking around was almost not going to happen. We managed to snap some pictures while driving through. We finally found a parking spot and walked around for quite a while, being tourists.... read more

Today was our first official day of driving…the doctor said that my eye was still in pretty sad shape, but that we’d be ok if I kept going to doctors on the road every few days. My eye officially hates me, but at least its getting better! I can open it, so that’s always good news. We decided not to go to Tulsa to see Katie and Kelley ☹ we figured it was bad timing, as Katie is sick and Kelley will be very busy, so we’re going to try and make it on the way back. So Dallas here we come!!! 15 hours on the road? No big deal. We started driving at around 10 this morning and made it through Colorado, Oklahoma and are now conquering Texas! (No Marilyn, we didn’t get to Oklahoma ... read more

Our First Day "On The Road" Well, I decided that it would be fun to get a bacterial infection in my cornea yesterday and today!!! Yipeee! So I went to the doctor this morning and he told me there was no way I was leaving the state for 2 months without treating this yeatch. Im going back to see him tomorrow and hopefully he will give us the "OK" to hit the open road. So our first official day of our trip was spent in a dark room (my eyes are sensitive to light) with no TV on (again, my eyes are sensitive to light) and no computer! (you can guess why...) Good times. My eye is feeling much better, however, as we have been dumping prescription eye drops into it all day long...things are looking ... read more

today i'm writing from colorado, where i'm staying with tracey and her family just outside denver. it's pretty warm here comparatively, yesterday when we arrived it was 50 degrees farenheit, which was nearly t-shirt weather compared to all the temperatures i've been in recently! (though today it's back down to freezing!) in ann arbor it was the worst, days were between -15 and -25 celcius, so basically it was too cold to do anything. one day when school was cancelled cos of the cold, we took my cousin's kids to a play cafe, and while walking from the car to the cafe my wet hair started to freeze! that'll teach me for refusing to use hairdryers... a highlight in ann arbor was going to the outback steakhouse, which is meant to be australian. i'd heard ... read more

back in the west indeed. immersed in the western culture for the past several months, in fact. it is amusing for me to read back on some of my entries from southeast asia, remembering my lifestyle, my few belongings, and the feeling that i didn't know quite WHERE i was going, but i was certainly getting there in an interesting way. and then to compare this to my situation at this moment. i have only been here a few months, but asia seems like a dream-world, something i read about somewhere rather than something i did, just as the US seemed like a dream-world when i was in asia. sometimes i think the world is not spherical. it is flat like a coin, and i live back on the other side of the coin now. far ... read more

I moved back to Colorado and Travis and I prepared for having the Tipi. We finished what he had been working on while i was away and leveled the land in the sand pit Trav had built out of old telephone beams. We also built a nice wood storage shed outside of where the Tipi door would be placed facing East. The Tipi arrived and we learned how to heat and ourselves and through trial and error we experimented with three heat sources. Waking up to silhouettes of the windmill and falling asleep to owls were among some of my favorite moments on Blacktail. I got a job working at a health club doing childcare with rich high energy children and Travis continued to act in various forms in the Denver area. Our chill lives were ... read more

About a year ago, my family and I moved to Colorado from Centerville, Ohio. It was an 18 hour drive here, but we had to stop a lot because my grandma was with us. The first night we stayed in a hotel called Comfort Inn. The service was great, but we had to eat at a local restaurant that was absolutely horrible. The food was either cold or burnt to a crisp. The next night we stayed another hotel called Holiday Inn. We ate (again) at a little restaurant they had downstairs. The food was to die for! I don’t think I’ve ever tasted more scrumptious spaghetti! They also had a pool but when my brother and I went to get it we almost turned to ice it was so cold! All through Nebraska we were ... read more

So. One morning we were in class and our director mentioned to the girls that one of the guys small groups decided to bless us with a gift. He said we would know what it is when we saw it but not to try and find out who it was as they wanted to remain anonymous. We were all wondering what it could possibly be and later on that day we roamed back up to our lodge and infact there was a suprise. The most amazing, loving thing which blessed us unconditionally was plastered up in our bathroom. It was beautiful. On the window were things the guys had written for us and around the mirror was everyones names and the meanings - it spoke so much to us. In sharing it i hope you are ... read more

Well, here I am the morning after. Yesterday I spent the majority of the day cleaning out the apartment and packing things. Time slipped away quickly and - as usual - there was far more to do than appeared. I ended up buying a bunch of 3 mil thick “construction cleanup trash bags” and shoveling stuff out of the cupboards and into the bags. X D Either way, I’m glad I got the larger storage unit, because I didn’t have time to thin out the junk as much as I’d like. So I kind of had a rough night, not only because I wasn’t getting anywhere very fast, but also because I was going through my happy memories and boxing them up for the unknown. So anyway, I got up at 05:00 and succeeded in ... read more
