Well first of all I was gutted about England and what makes it worst I reckon we would of beat France in the semi, so after that you never know. If Ronaldo stays at Utd it should be a very interesting season for him!! The way we got knocked out I was glad to be away as all the papers and news at home would have done my head in and wouldn´t be surprised if they are still mentioning it now! Well our first stop after Cancun was Isla Murjares (Island of Women). It was a nice chilled out little island and it was good to get away from the hordes of tourists. We hired some mountain bikes and toured the island for a few days. Michelle wasn’t happy with the exercise, but I was glad ... read more

All the students from the states were there with us in Cancun- it was heaving and Kay and I felt like right oldies as we partied alongside them- they have soo much energy! During our time in Cancun we sampled pretty much all of the local cuisine, all of it delicious! We sunbathed at a few hotels (illegally) as we weren't really meant to be using the facilities unless we were paying guests- ah well! Our hotel was nice we stayed in downtown Cancun, despite the connotations of 'downtown', Hotel Margarita's was lovely, really clean, and a central location- we had to get the bus into central Cancun, it was 6.50 pesos, about 40 pence! Food was soo cheap- very dangerous for the two of us as we just wanted to sample everything! As for the ... read more

Having a great time in Mexico - although the weather hasn´t been too great, today its been cloudy all day and it even rained - think they´re approaching rainy season here. But other than that, the foods great, the people are nice, its easy to get around and its hot! We´re staying at Hotel Margaritas which is in Downtown Cancun so we have to take a bus to the beach but it was about a tenth of the price than staying in the hotel zone on the beach and the hotels nice, clean with a TV and it costs about 40p to get the bus. The beaches here are beautiful, probably some of the nicest we´ve been to so far on our trip - white sand, amazing blue clear sea - the only thing missing at ... read more

After 3 hectic days in Miami, with about 10hrs sleep we arrived in Cancun, in the boiling hot sun. We are staying in downtown Cancun, not in the very expensive hotel zone and the hotel we are staying is really nice, not plush like the Luxor but it comes close. We haven't really done anything since we got here. Went out last night to Coco Bongo's and had a fantastic time, although it started to get a bit cheesy towards the end, it was a good laugh. In our few days in Miami we went to Nikki's beach, ate at the News Cafe, thanks to Don, and partied till 5am at Opium with Fabulous and Sean Paul! Miami is a very strange place, it seemed as though we had been there for a month, the amount ... read more

So after a fairly tearfull send off last Friday we left Heathrow on an 11 hour flight to Mexico City. After lording it in the celubrious VIP Lounge (courtesy of Uncle Bob and Tess! Thanks!) and with a heady mix of Martini´s, Red wine and Diazapam in our bodies (well, mainly Stu´s) we settled into a crappy flight of cloud, turbulence and Stu sraping the enamel off the handrail every time someone coughed! Get Mexico City, and guess what? Its raining! Absolutely massive city from what we can see from the approach on the flight. Just urban sprawl as far as the eye can see. So after getting our head down in one of the airport hotels, we jet off the following day to Cancun on the Caribbean Coast. Unfortunately, due to our budget and the ... read more

I spent the day at Chichen Itza yesterday. It was amazing. The extent and quality of the ruins was great. Especially impressive to me was the enormous pyramid/temple at the entrance to the sight and the ball court, which before I'd only read about in books. I visited the ruins with my new American friends. I ended up spending only the day at Chichen Itza and took the bus with them back to Cancun to have a night on the town in the hotel zone. The hotel zone nightlife is overpriced, touristy, obnoxious, and American. All transactions are conducted in US dollars. We spent most of our time at a club that had a $40 US entrance fee, but had an open bar. It was a relatively nice club, but everyone was really young and the ... read more

Thursday 30th March. We caught the 7.30am Water Taxi from Caye Caulker, and made our way back to Belize City marina. From the City, it was a 3/4 hour bus journey to the Belize/Mexican border. We crossed and were meeted with a huge sign across the road 'Welcome to Mexico, North America'. My Central American journey had now come to an end. We jumped back on the bus, which took us on to the town of Chetumel, and the bus station. A wait for 45 minutes, and then our next bus, and this time a 6.5 hour journey to our next destination, Playa del Carmen. Although the bus journey was long, it was comfortable, a fully air conditioned bus, with movies on the inboard tv screens all the way. Playa del Carmen is located 1 hour ... read more

I guess the images you get of Mexico are the classic drunk Mexican with a bottle of tequilla in one hand sleeping under a cactus in the desert heat or of Clint Eastwood riding around on a horse in a poncho making lots of trouble with lots of gunslinging and punch ups in cantina bars. Unfortunately, everyone gets a shock when they arrive here and it looks like a slight run down version of the USA. Its quite disappointing at first as the old west as it was known no longer really exists and is replaced by a inferior plastic version of something most travellers these days are trying to escape. But dont let this put you off because Mexico is a very big country and if you are will to go to the extra ... read more
