Our tour guide described Cancún as follows: "Cancún is a smaller version of Miami, with the main difference that they speak Spanish at Miami and English at Cancún"... He might have been right, it felt like the city was full with tourists ready to spend some weeks in a resort hotel speaking only English and spending only US dollars (though it was relatively cheaper if you paid the local bills in peseta's instead of US dollars). When we walked through the streets, people often came to us, asking: "Hello my friends, would you like to party?". That's why we arranged a trip to "Isla Mujeres", a small island next to Cancún. We stayed there one day, just admiring the turquoise blue water and enjoying the sun. Since it was not as crowded as Cancún itself, it was ... read more

Today was Patrice, Christina, and my last day in Cancun. We would be flying back home early tomorrow morning while Vern and Bill stayed on for a few extra days. Our last full day was spent about an hour south of Cancun in the small town of Puerto Morelos. We had signed up for a snorkeling tour of the offshore coral reefs. After changing into our swimming gear and getting our snorkeling gear, we had a few minutes to check out the beach. The beaches here are quite peaceful with very few tourists. It's as if we had the entire beach and coral reef all to ourselves to explore. We all jumped aboard this tiny little fishing boat which would take us a few hundred feet offshore to begin our snorkeling. Once we were all ... read more

We woke up this morning at around 5am to meet our tour guide who was going to drive us over to Chichen-Itza to tour the ancient Mayan archaeological site. All of us went except for Bill who just wasn't interested in anything besides the beach and club scene. It was still dark outside when we began our 2 hour drive deep into the heart of the Yucatan. Tours to Chichen-Itza usually start very early in the morning due to the oppressive heat during the day. Arriving at Chichen-Itza, we were amongst the first people there this morning. Our guide walked us over to the Pyramid of Kukulcan which was every bit as impressive as I had imagined. It was a step-pyramid with staircases on all 4 sides leading to a temple at the top. Our ... read more

After a night where nobody was able to sleep comfortably, we woke up pretty early in the morning thankful that nobody tried to murder or rob us in the middle of the night. When I moved the balcony curtains to see our view, I was amazed at what I saw. For only about $40 dollars, our room had an amazing ocean view. It was definitely the best view I had ever had from a hotel room! During my morning shower, I was startled to see that I was not alone. Geckos were walking around in the shower with me! This hotel not only had geckos but the hugest cockroaches I had ever seen. For breakfast, we wandered into town where being the Americans that we are, we had McDonald's. After breakfast, we gathered our things ... read more

Early this morning Vern, Bill, Christina, Patrice, and myself all headed down to LAX for our 5 day vacation in Cancun, Mexico. Arriving at the airport early for our 7am flight, drama which would be the overriding theme for the day was about to begin. We all had no problems obtaining our boarding pass for our America West flight to Phoenix. However Bill decided that he would use his expired driver's license as his form of identification. The ticket attendant refused to take this as an acceptable form of identification and told him that he needed to clear this at some office in a different terminal. We were already running late and still had to go through security and now we had to wait for Bill to get this cleared up. While Vern and him ... read more

I ended my vacation in Belize at Cancun. I took the bus from Belize City back to Cancun. Since my rear was sunburned it was a bit of an uncomfortable ride, even though the bus was similar in comfort to a Greyhound. It was a very long day to say the least. I decided that all of my activities in Cancun for the next day would involve walking and taking photographs. I was quite surprised to see Plant Hollywood in Cancun. The hotels were in every style I could imagine. Cancun is very touristy. I toured some of the markets, everyone wanted me to buy their wares. I viewed an art gallery which had some interesting and colorful art. My last night in Cancun, I ate dinner at Pat O'Briens. The music was festive, I sat ... read more

When I was around 12 years old, my parents had taken my brother and I on our first plane ride trip ever. They had decided on Cancun Mexico. We stayed at the Oasis Resort, which had BEAUTIFUL sparkling pools which surrounded the hotel like a moat. I also remember the peacocks and iguanas free to roam the grounds as the guests just went about their day. They had many activities to help you enjoy your stay, such as water aerobics, volleyball, and the swim up bar, which made frozen virgin drinks so even kids could take advantage of the tropical treats (Hey, we were 10 & 12 at the time!), and also hair brading. They had little shows that took place at nighttime, we went to a couple of those, and in the morning we would ... read more
