Our tour guide described Cancún as follows: "Cancún is a smaller version of Miami, with the main difference that they speak Spanish at Miami and English at Cancún"...

He might have been right, it felt like the city was full with tourists ready to spend some weeks in a resort hotel speaking only English and spending only US dollars (though it was relatively cheaper if you paid the local bills in peseta's instead of US dollars). When we walked through the streets, people often came to us, asking: "Hello my friends, would you like to party?".

That's why we arranged a trip to "Isla Mujeres", a small island next to Cancún. We stayed there one day, just admiring the turquoise blue water and enjoying the sun. Since it was not as crowded as Cancún itself, it was quite relaxing. We also made a little walk and saw some iguanas.

I'm so pleased that you have chosen to blog about your past journeys...otherwise this picture from 2004 would not have been found. I also lived in Belgium...for 11 years from 1984 to 1995 when I worked at NATO. I joined TB in 2009 and in between annual trips, I decided to work my way back; completing six decades of journeys at the end of 2011. So keep it writing those blogs.
