The flight from New York to Amsterdam took 6.5 hours. Then from Amsterdam to Heathrow was only an hour. I collected my baggage after travelling all night, and was greeted at the Arrivals by my family, 2pm GMT. Then a 3 hour drive to my hometown, Teignmouth, Devon. I have had an amzing tour, met some brilliant people, and seen many amzing things, beautiful places, an incredible journey. Thanks very much to everyone who have travelled with me, and read my blogs, maybe see you again soon......!!!!... read more
Sunday 7th May. I said goodbye to some friends I had been travelling with in the morning. Its never nice to say goodbye to friends, and it really felt like my last day travelling now. I decided to hit the City again, and made my way back to the Empire State building. I bought a ticket, and went to the very top, the observary point on the 86th floor. The view across the City is absolutely amazing, you can see everything from here, it just dwarfs the other skyscrapers. And since 9/11, its now the highest tower in New York. Its claimed to be one of the wonders of the world. From there I did some shopping in Macys ( of course!! ), and then walked up to Bryants Park. Here is the main library, and ... read more
We left the campsite in Washington, the last night of camping on this trip, and drove to Philadelphia. We stopped in Philly for lunch, and again for a whirlwind look around the City, and it looks a huge place with many people. Back in the car and on the road, to the last destination of my tour, New York. I had never been to the States before, so I was particularly looking forward to coming here. We found our hostel which is close to Central Park, and the Bronx. After checking in we walked down the avenue until we reached 72nd street and the Dakota buildings. Infamous, as this is where John Lennon was murdered as he got out of his car to enter his apartment in the building. I spoke to the porter of the ... read more
From Memphis we passed through Nashville, where I did a whirlwind look around the town, and visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, yeeehhaaaa. We then spent a couple of days in West Virginia, mainly because we were travelling to our next destination, Washington. We arrived in Washington on Wednesday 3rd May. The campsite we were staying in was the best I had seen on the trip, very modern with all facilities possible, a comfortable place to camp. We arrived fairly late, so we ate at a local bar that night, and got a good nights sleep ready for the next day. I got up early and took the bus and train in to the City centre. First stop was the Museum of natural history, which has a huge elephant inside, and many dinosaur skeletons. Then ... read more
From New Orleans was the long drive to Tennessee, and to Memphis. We arrived at Elvis Presley boulevard, and camped next to The Heartbreak Hotel. The Boulevard houses graceland, and many souvenir shops dedicated to the legend. We camped the night, and next morning was up early to tour Graceland. It was a musuem of the kings life, some rooms preserved as he had left them, others housing suits and awards from his illustrious career, a must for any music or Elvis fan to see. Then, around the back of the property is the family graves, including where he is buried, if he is dead that is.....!!!... read more
After leaving Monument Valley there were some long travel days, and stops to different towns for short periods of time. We stopped in Santa Fe, which was a beautiful little town, and then on to San Antonio, which was a mamoth drive. There we walked along the water canal at night, and eat at the Hard Rock cafe, and then we visited the famous Alamo. We set off from San Antonio the next morning and made a four hour drive to Houston, and spent the afternoon in the Nasa Johnson space centre. This was a brilliant place with many artifacts including a 3.8 billion year old moon rock that you can touch, some of the original spacecrafts used in the first missions in space, and a tour of the famous control room where all the flight ... read more
The next drive was on to Monument valley. Anoter spectacular place out in the dessert, and scene of many famous westerns, mostly directed by John Ford who has a section named after him. We did a tour around the valley, which was hosted by local Navajo Indians that lived on the reservation. It again was an amazing place. We camped in the valley that night, and the Indians cooked a fantastic meal for us. We also were treated to some traditional music and dancing, before returning to the tents to sleep under the stars. A brilliant day.... read more
From the bright lights of Vegas and on in to the desert, to see one of the wonders of the world. We arrived at the campsite after driving allday. And it was freezing cold, hard to get used to after being in the sun for so long. We cooked dinner and tried to keep warm that night in the tents. The next morning I was up at 9am, and caught a free shuttle to the Canyon. I got to Yavapai point, and walked along the edge of the Blue Angel trail, and it was spectacular, like a scene of a postcard. We hung around for Sunset, and this was also spectacular, the orange sun making the rocks look like they are burning. An incredible place. That night it was back to the campsite, to try and ... read more
I flew from Oakland near San Francisco on Tuesday. The flight to Vegas was 1.5 hours. I checked in to the hotel and looked around, and its an incredible place, unreal. I went to Caesars Palace that night, and got plenty of photos of all the attractions. Same today just looking around, and visiting a casino! Tonight Im going to see the Fab Four, a Beatles tribute band in Aladdins, really looking forward to that. Keeping my blogs short at the moment, cause the internet is sooo expensive here!!!!... read more
It was my 29th birthday, Sunday 16th April. My flight from Mexico City to San Francisco took around 5 hours, and I arrived at 7pm. I checked in to the hotel, and got unpacked. I decided to go out to get some water from a grocery store, and as I was crossing the road, I was knocked over by a speeding taxi. Was taken to hospital by ambulance and was in the emergency ward for 5 hours. Luckily I escaped with cuts and many bruises, but was not serious. All on my birthday. The next day I did a tour of the City, saw the fabulous Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz prison, despite being in pain!!... read more
