NO WE DID NOT GO BACK TO ITALY. WE WOULD LIKE TO . THESE ARE BLOG THAT bOB MISSED PUBLISHING SO ENJOY Arles France to Levanto, Cinque Terre, Italy We drove 638 Kilometers and paid tolls, tolls, and more tolls. For some reason the credit card stop working on the Italian toll booths, and we were due for a ATM stop. Well we made it. but not with much slack. The campground, Acqua Dolce, sweet water, is lovely and on the Mediterranean Sea. The road, winding down to this spot, was a white knuckle drive, but oh the views were incredible! After such a long drive, we needed to stretch and walk. So around Levanto we stroll and are delighted, with this charming town. It is time to celebrate. So we had a wonderful Italian dinner...mussels ... read more

Now I'm not sure if all bathtubs in England are like this, but the one at the "hotel" I'm staying at is just a bit different. One, it's a god awful puke yellow. It also has a very touchy temperature knob that if not careful can be mistaken for the "on/off" knob and you can burn the crap out of yourself then shock yourself and testicles in a surge of cold water. But the worst part is that it is about 6 inches higher than your normal tub, yet on the inside it is the same depth. Not a big deal right? Well try taking a relaxing shower and then pleasantly stepping outside of it with the expectation of your foot hitting the ground at the "normal" bathtub height...The outcome, a minor curse but no damage, ... read more

We decided that we'd get up early and try and pack in a full day of sightseeing. We almost got run over about three or four times on our way to the train station in town. The drivers aren't to be trusted, even at zebra crossings and red lights you've got to look twice and it doesn't help that the cars are on the wrong side of the road. Left is right, right is not right. France were having train strikes while we were there which meant angry people and delays. We didn't have it too bad, but it was a crap time for a strike with the Cannes film festival and Monaco Grand Prix on. We decided that we'd check out Antibes before heading on to Cannes. Antibes is a small medievel town built inside ... read more

Travelling in Italy is, at the same time, both extremely frustrating and hilarious. Driving on the large freeways that connect the different parts of the Italy is like being a speedway driver in some sort of kamikaze death race. The easiest way that we found to deal with driving was to treat the speed limits as a bare minimum rather than a maximum. On the motorway you can spot the born and bred Italian’s with ease: they will drive for miles straddling 2 lanes, then with indicators constantly on, faster cars will race up behind anyone slower in the fast lane, and sit literally 3ft from the bumper of the car in front. It’s hilarious to watch until it happens to you. The first day was spent driving from Rome to Sorrento, which we managed to ... read more

Our adventures in Paris.... Got up at 7:20. Went and did my cookie duty- cut up green peppers. Breakfast was egg omelet, toast, bacon, and cereals. We left camp at 8:30 and drove into Paris city centre. Mecha and Simon drove us around to show us the main sites ie: Notre Dam, the Louvre, the main bridges, the Arc d' Triumph (which has the most crazy assed roundabout), where Napolean is buried, the bridge from the finale of Sex in the City, and the Eiffel Tower. There was a lot more and I got to take a lot of photos today! We headed out to Versailles. Karen, Gloria, Harry, and I waited from 11:15-12:15ish in line to get tickets, then waited in another line until almost 1:00 before we finally came inside. It was so gorgeous ... read more

"It has been said that the sunsets in Santorini are the best in the world. From the Caldera breathtaking views of the volcano & neighbouring islands. From the east, miles of dark sandy or pebbled beaches. Everywhere one sees small domed churches and remnants of days gone by." Santorini is all it is cranked up to be. Beautiful beaches, majestic cliffs, intriguing ruins. After 8 hours on the Blue Star Naxos ferry (£93.6) we arrived at the port at the bottom of the caldera. We grabbed our bags and headed to a travel agent to find some accommodation, after deciding that was too hard we walked back out and straight into the Hostel Anna van. The guy jumped out and convinced us to come with him and look at his rooms. So we got in the ... read more

Day 1 - Friday 23 May We departed London Gatwick on the 23rd May for a 5 day trip to Prague (Czech Republic), with Erin’s parents, Lyn and David. Our Easyjet flight was uneventful and within 2 hours we had touched down in Prague. We arrived at our hotel, only to be informed by the manager that they had no power. He had booked us into another more expensive hotel (Hotel Roma) but, thankfully, we would not have to wear the extra cost. We were quite impressed with our “upgrade”. We had quite a roomy 2 bedroom apartment, in a hotel that had obviously been totally renovated, with very high ceilings & very thick walls. There were a few idiosyncrasies, however, that totally mystified us. Despite being an apartment for four, there were only 3 chairs ... read more

Hello! I've spent the last month studying for my final exams and working part time at the pub. I finished my last exam on May 14, and since then I've been working full time, saving a bit of money for my upcoming adventure through central Europe. My exams went pretty well, but I was very glad to be done. In the one engineering exam I had I messed up the easy question which everyone got, but I got the hard question which noone else got, so I guess it balances out. At the beginning of May we had ten straight days of absolutely stunning weather - clear blue skies and twenty five degrees. I was eating dinner on the balcony every night, running in the park (which was crammed every day), and walking the streets of ... read more

A land of fjords, waterfalls, seafood and mountains - seems like my kind of place. So I headed to Norway for an extra long weekend at the end of May. We flew into Oslo on Friday morning and checked out the sights (although we took it pretty easy, knowing we had a big couple of days ahead). A highlight was the Munch museum where we saw the famous 'Scream' painting, which had only just been returned to the walls after having been stolen in 2004 and recovered in 2006. The painting had been damaged by the thieves and the museum spent the next 2 years restoring it (and creating an interesting exhibition about the process). Apparently the thieves left a note saying 'Thanks for the poor security' - cheeky. (As an aside, security had been improved). ... read more
