it was sad leaving dublin, but we were excited to see what else was in store for us. we took an early morning ryanair flight to london stansted and then a train that connected to the london metro (tube) system. we stayed in the hyde park/kensington gardens part of london...very nice, peaceful...nothing like the big city itself. however, we still felt like there was a lot to see right around our hostel. the first day we found a market and bought bread, cheese, chicken, and fruit to eat and took it to the park. we sat under a tree in the cool shade and ate. it was a nice way to relax after starting our day off so early. we continued the day with a walk through the middle of kensington gardens and along the edge ... read more

Hi everybody! Just a quick message to give our thoughts on London before we head off on our Contiki tour tomorrow morning :) After a long and arduous trip from Aswan, Egypt we were glad to arrive in a modern city with all the creature comforts we're used to (and then some!). Fresh air was also an added bonus that we'd nearly forgotten about! Our hotel, the Royal National is HUGE and the corridors are just a maze! There's not much we can say about it except that it's in a good location and at least it's clean (if only just a step up from a hostel! haha). Finally after 17 hours in transit we checked in and got our keys then headed up to our room. It took some time just to get to our ... read more

Today was a lovely Sunday (although I slept in insane amounts because of jet lag). Anyway, Izzy and I headed into Edgware for some falafel with Joel and his family (brother and cousin). Falafel was great, never had before, but I really liked the little shop we went to. Then we spent about 3 hours in the park with just Izzy Joel and I. The park is really lovely and I got to see the duckies! And we spent time hanging out and just chatting. Apparently I am very much like Joel's lady love. Anyway, it was very relaxing and now I'm back and about to get dinner at the house. It's fabulous! CHEERS ... read more

We arrived at Portsmouth at 1.30pm a little early as check in was at 4.30pm. We lined up at the port and waiting patiently so patient we both had time for a sleep, nearly read an entire book, have a sun bake and a cool beer. Eventually were asked to get ourselves into the camper and get ready for boarding note time now being 8.45pm. Patience is a virtue as my mum and dads have said. Finally on the Ship named the “Pride of Bilbao” heading from Portsmouth to Bilbao Spain. We had a spectacular view as we left Portsmouth Harbour, the new Spinnaker Tower, the HMS Illuisious, the Ark Royal navy ships, the Warrior but the Victory was out of sight the size of them astounding. We retired to our humble cabin. ... read more

After a three hour train ride from Exeter with a killer hangover, trying very hard not to fall asleep so I wouldn't miss my changeover, I arrived in Southampton to find it was really hot there too. It's the first time I wished it was cold in England. Paul picked me up and took me strait to Beaulieu for National Mini Cooper Day. 2000 mini's in Beaulieu Palace gardens. I have never seen so many little cars, and so many little car owners excited to tell you every little detail about their little cars :) It was lots of fun, although my loyalty still lies with beetles :) They break down less :) We saw mini ambulances, mini police cars, mini ice-cream cars and a mini caravan :) ... read more

24th May: The frustration with the phone line continues - apparently BT needs to dig up a main road somewhere, and paperwork being what it is, they don’t expect the phone to be back on until 20th July, which seems unbelievable, but at least we know where we stand now. Enjoyed the luxury of reading a Cathy Kelly novel (these Irish chick-lit writers are very enjoyable!), before deciding must get some fresh air, so a good long-walk, and then writing up travelblog entries until late… 25th May: Quik Pod arrived in the post. Saw this featured in the Times travel section a few weeks ago, then after a quick search with Pricerunner, found it on url=http://... read more

I am finally here, and I am so excited. I got into London about an hour late, and then it was an hour and a half to train and metro in to Izzy's house. By the way, I highly recommend Virgin Atlantic! It's brilliant, very nice. Anyway, nothing terribly exciting has happened (well to write about) I already feel at home here, it's perfect. I am going to go get over my jet lag, but tomorrow should be exciting! CHEERS!... read more

Took some pictures today but forgot to bring my camera down to the lobby - so pictures next time! Anyway, I arrived in London yesterday morning at 7 AM. Didn't sleep much on the plane. Somehow managed to stay on my feet long enough to go out with some girls and explore the city last night - we took the tube (which most people seem to pronounce like "chupe") into Leicester Square and had some dinner. The girl across from me at our dinner table kept nodding off, which was funny and definitely understandable. We then walked around a little bit and club promoters persuaded us to go into a couple of clubs. We all kind of stood in a circle, trying to dance, but no one really had energy to move at all. So we ... read more

We arrived in Beaune, parked up in a lay-by and cycled up to Mike’s house to assess the parking situation …….. It looked good(ish), so we decided to attempt to “dock”. Now, here is a sad fact……. The last time we were here, several years ago, and very much in the “pre-rig” era, Graeme had sized up the space, with regard to parking a 39ft (at the time) very much hypothetical vehicle; decided it would fit, and stored that information for future use. (At this point, anyone who can ever recall in the past seeing Graeme gazing at their drive must realise they had better look out!) We arrived a day before Mike and Anne-Marie, but they had told us to make ourselves at home. So, with only the usual booby traps in place; this ... read more
