June 24th 2005 Godalming, Surrey, England. Well, how time does fly. The last week has been spent in care-work training, as predicted. It was actually really good, with the content allaying many a fear, until I'm now altogether much more comfortable with the idea - and the purported reality - of a care worker's duties and responsibilities. The attitude of the trainers and the company staff was fairly casual and good-natured, which was a relief as I'd been nervous at the idea of a super-serious psychological evaluation-type of training with cameras monitoring our every move and all of that. But they're not like that, and I quite like everybody I've met so far. My primary trainer even reminds me of a certain ‘roster nazi’ from my last job, with her quirky humour and tough-as-nails, hard-ass attitude. ... read more

"Ladies and Gentleman i would like to announce the main event , this is the essence of what it is to be a true champion as the Undisputed Superlight Weight Champion of the World , Kostya Tszyu takes the contender Ricky Hatton in a bout to show who is best - no excuses!" I will be in the pub (The Old Crown or wherever its on) watching this one closely as it will be pure boxing the moment these two step in the ring. I remember playing basketball with him and Johnny Lewis among other boxers as they used it as a warm down (we were struggling to keep up with them) @ Newtown PCYC when it was still around. The games were quite physical but played in good spirit-always , as Kostya and Johnny are ... read more

Well hello there or should I say G'Day! Today marked the beginning of the adventure down under. One went to Trailfinders and got my e-ticket to Sydney. So no turning back now. Flying out with Qantas to keep the Australian theme going! No snobby British Airways for me. On the 18th of July I will be departing fair England and arriving two days later in the sunnier climate of Australia and New Zealand. First on the list or things to see is not the harbour bridge or opera house, oh no, it is the motherland that is Ramsey Street! Just have to sort out my visa, insurance and first weeks accomodation or one will be spending the duration of the trip at the immigration service expense! So until July Au revoir/ciao/see you later. Karen... read more

The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, London England were laid out in 1759 and extended in 1772 when Sir Joseph Banks returned from his voyage around the world with Captain Cook and became the unofficial director. Under his guidance collections of plants from many parts of the world were carefully built up, and by the time of his death in 1820, the garden had become internationally famous. With its established library and laboratory for plant research, it is now recognized as one of the world’s most beautiful botanical gardens, synonymous with all that is best in botanical research. Just a short train ride from London, we had a very pleasant day at Kew Gardens. A leading centre of botanical research the gardens are mostly quite informal, with a few more formal areas. There are extensive conservatories, ... read more

After three and a half weeks in sunny South Africa we returned back to cold rainy England to complete our final big push. It was exciting once again, we were moving home and starting new jobs! This time we headed for the lush green country side, where we stayed in a 2 bedroomed cottage on my new boss' estate. It was gorgeous, up on Box Hill with awesome views of rolling hills on their land and no neighbours! Well, maybe a few kms down the road, but I don't think we would be bumping into them soon.. Jason was still working at Harrods in London and travelling almost 3 hours a day on train and underground. My journey was slightly quicker, about a minute's walk to the main house that I would be looking after and ... read more
