So it's half 6 on Saturday morning....I should probably be doing sensible things like checking I have my tickets and passport or that I can actually stand up with my backpack on...but no, I'm on here checking that I can actually use this blog and I'm not just fooling myself. So this is just a practice and not necessarily indicative of the standard of the rest of the journal over the next 6 months...promise... Thanks to everyone who wished us well, and you all take care...drop me a line every so often so I know people are actually looking at this thing! That's it for now, not much exciting news from Weybridge, I'll try and update from San Francisco... Anna right, let's see if I can manage some photos.......... read more

So the day hath finally cometh. Years of plans, aspirations and boring people silly are about to pay off. Kate's Mum and Dad are kindly taking us to LHR and they've also agreed to water the animals so the panic's over. We've spent most of today cleaning the house (Kate finds work for idle hands). Our flight leaves at 22.15 so sitting in the hall with coat on for 8 hours wasn't practical, apparently. We (should) be in touch soon - internet cafes permitting. If you don't hear anything from us, fret not, we probably just decided against sitting inside in front of a PC when there were mountains/rivers (ok, pubs/pavlovas) calling us over ... Wishing you a peaceful five weeks full of lottery wins and warm weather - you never know. Love N x PS ... read more

On the 11th of February 2006 we made history! Not the type of history that will go down in our history books today, but for me and will a fantastic memory. Due to all you party animal binge drinkers it was a night that I wont forget in a hurry! Intoxicated my self (of course) me and Will proceeded to take part in what only can be described as a messy cocktail, shot drinking and games galore drinking session! (So much for a quiet leaving party) I mainly blame Kris and Natalie's entertaining drinking games! Two packs of cards were placed face down on two tables whilst we all sat around the tables. Going around the table in order you would have to pick up a card and if it was a royal you would have ... read more

Hello again beloved friends and family! Welcome to those whose names have been added since the last blog was posted. Yes, I know, it has been a very long time since I have thrown an update on here. For this I apologise. Not much exciting to report to be honest. Lots and lots of work keeping me busy. No traveling or major adventures until I get more work behind me. But, have had lots of people complaining that I haven’t posted anything for a while so here I am trying to come up with some exciting news to make them happy. Let’s see if I can come up with a group of little stories and random photos from the past month. As you know from previous entries, I was homeless for the first few weeks here ... read more

Just testing the system in readiness for trip to NZ. Well time's running out. Only another 22 days before we go. And I haven't even packed. But no stress, the packing list is virtually there (draft #14). Scorn if you must but how many t-shirts/ socks/pants does a girl need for a five week trip? It's a new one on me and the balance between plenty and constant laundering seems mighty fine. I can't quite buy in to old Dayne's logic of 'there's four ways to wear a pair of pants before they need washing'. This excludes the fifth, equally worrying, popping-them-on-your-head option. Love the backpacker approach but 'fess I am a girl with comfort needs... So will it all fit in just the one rucksack? Prrfffph. Ever seen my weekend bag? Think I might rent ... read more

Hi guys, it's D day! I'm still having problems sleeping but I'm sure I will have a very sound sleep tomorrow night in New Delhi. I cut my hair on saturday, I thought I would be quite emotional but it was quite liberating! The backpack is finally, finally packed and it weights a ton, as you can see it's almost as large as me! Enough of the boring stuff...I hope my next entry will be as exciting as I imagine! I'll keep you posted Patrice... read more

Hi Guys, Just getting ready for my trip round the world. First stop New Delhi, India, what a fantastic yet scary place to start! I'm going for 6 months with my best friend Kay who has also recently graduated. Were off to Asia, Australia, New Zealand, US and the Caribbean on January 11th. I'm so exicted at the moment I can hardly sleep. I'm in the process of unpacking and repacking my backpack everyday now, Mum thinks I have completly lost it. Counting down the days now... ... read more

27th December 2005. Godalming, Surrey, England. Merry Christmas to all back home. Though I can't really disclose particular details on my client's family or how my Christmas with them went, I did enjoy it for the most part. My client didn't get ill and I was surrounded by lovely people; life was good. All in all there have been nineteen people spending some part of their Christmas here. Some stayed Christmas Eve and some Christmas night, but all were here Christmas day so it was a bit of a madhouse. I was given VIP treatment and had to literally argue my way into the kitchen to help out whenever I felt at a loss of things to do. Everybody got along and I know the whole family by now, so it was not as distressing as ... read more

Okay, time for the story of UK house hunting fun, and what a saga it turned into! Scouring the newspapers and internet sites for hours and hours. Oh what joy! I finally started to cut down the list of available places that sounded like they may suit. House 1: Took over half an hour to walk there, only to find the landlord didnt tell the tenants I was coming so they weren't happy letting me in. That was okay, cos after seeing the area on my travels, I decided it wasn't somewhere I wanted to be. According to some guys in my office, I was lucky to get through the area on my own! Oops! Okay, so 'Park Barn' aint the place for Trace. House 2: Much shorter distance and seems a nice area. People in ... read more

Well, I've been here for over a week now and it’s been a while since I’ve updated you all. It has all felt a little crazy and its amazing how not doing that much can become so exhausting. It has certainly been a steep learning curve, and will continue to be so. A lot of time has been spent searching for a place to call home for the next couple of years. The househunting has been an interesting experience and I think will have to be the subject of another entry all of its own. Stay tuned for that one! I managed to become familiar with the university early, living on campus for the first week, and attending different work-related events even before officially starting. I was asked to attend a presentation given by one of ... read more
