Back in Suffolk, back with the routine of sorting and writing. Taking more and more walks, often with a camera - observing the changing flora and fauna - not that I make any great pretence to know the different types, growing up in the Sussex countryside means that I know more than I thought I knew - I joke that I tend to know the difference between ‘tree’, ‘bush’, ‘plant’ and ‘flower’ - and that I have black fingers, although I come from a farming family and one of my brother’s trained in horticulture… I reckon they all took my green fingers! One thing I have learnt to identify is the screech of the pheasant as it takes off when disturbed - especially when they screech from the early hours! I’m getting my bike out more ... read more

Just because we have had such lovely sunny weather I wanted to put these photos of Little Blakenham Woodland Garden on the blog. Went there on Sunday. No giraffes or hippos, just badgers. Double click on images to enlarge.... read more

I think I spent most of the beginning of the week (after I finally woke up) trying to sort out the clutter I’d accumulated after the past few weeks, and reading some stuff. Takes a while for my brain to re-set after so many changes, and I keep forgetting that, and keep giving myself too much to do! By Wednesday I was ready to leave the house, and went for a walk - thought it was an opportunity to test out the hiking boots over a short distance (I’ve been wearing Merrells for over a year, and find them really comfortable for walking long distances in (I used to walk nearly 2 hours a day!), and when I saw these in Switzerland - the same as I’ve worn, but with ‘ankles’, thought they were a pretty ... read more

Row row rowing our boat Europe » United Kingdom » England » Suffolk » Flatford By scubastellaApril 18th 2007stella meesters As my evening meeting was cancelled I decided to take the afternoon off. Wayne took me over to Flatford Mill and we hired a rowing boat. Wayne rowed to Dedham where we got icecreams and drinks. I rowed us back (using an alternative method that involves hitting the banks and lodging the boat on a large log! - I wasn't steering tho so not my fault at all ;) ). It was very pre... read more

Easter Sunday was pretty relaxed. I had slept for hours, catching up from my Oak Hall coach ride, so made it to Fressingfield for the morning service. We had a nice family dinner, I faffed around, and then we went to Syleham Church for the evening service. I took my camera as the weather was nice, and there's plenty of new plant life coming through. I'm afraid my knowledge is largely confined to "Is it a tree, a bush or a flower?"... although may be under-estimating myself, as I do know some (and could find out more if I wanted on the internet - but happy just to look at them! Enjoy! ... read more

Well, that didn't last long, 6 months went like a week. We've got our bags and our off to Ipswich for the weekend, to get the car and some stuff we left at my parents. While we're at it, we'll have some home cooked food, maybe a Sunday roast. We'll check the container and look at our belongings, before spending a couple of days in London. After all that, we'll need a holiday, so we are off to Braithwaite in the Lakes, to see the gang up there for some walking and drinking. We'll be back in London after Easter, looking for work and housing. You can get Nic on 0777 607 6013 and Ady on 07970 511 608, as he has managed to get his lost number working again over the weekend. We've still got ... read more

Back to my parents to collect my passport, and my skiing gear - which I thought I'd packed away for a couple of years! Faced with the largest pile of post ever, which took me most of the 36 hours I was there for to deal with, although I did get a bit of a walk in the balmy spring sunshine.... ahhhh! Included in the post was my published article on ‘Careless Talk’ for the Second World War Experience Centre - very exciting to see it in print. My Mum asked me a lot of questions about where I would be doing my TEFL course, and who it was for, etc. I didn’t get it until I looked in the Times that day, and realised she’d been reading all about url=http://news.google.co.uk/news?q=lindsay+hawker&hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=news_result&resnum=1&ct=... read more

Costa Rica blog is on its way but AOL broadband not working at present so would be very slow to upload lots of photos. Here is a short pictorial thank you to Tamsin for my Mother's Day pressie. (Of course I had to choke back the tears.) I love it - thank you very much indeed. Going to the theatre with Neil when he is back from skiing (when he gets there. Eurostar cancelled so going via Luton airport and fighting the expense out with SkiWorld later on) I am a very lucky mummy. Love you both Your mummy xxxxxxxxxxxxx... read more

Back to my parents for a couple of weeks, catching up on some sleep and all that kind of thing. A very useful website to help reevalute things after months of intense frustration is Mind Tools, so I'm taking time to evaluate what happened so that it won't happen again, and get some of the things done that I really wanted to do. My goals for 2007 are catch up with sleep, friends, think about what I want to do long-term (including trying some new things), build up my writing/web portfolio, plan travels and go travelling... plus a few odds and ends which have been put to one side whilst I moved jobs/cities/houses (far too many times that last one!). Watch this blog - you'll see them happening! Photo is attached to show progress! I haven't ... read more
