Happy New Year from Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand, where we are celebrating with part 2 of our honeymoon. We spent New Years Eve day on the beach (although the weather has been a bit mixed since we arrived on 28th), and the night at a beach party which involved the whole of the Had Yao families and was centred around the Eagle pub. Ended up surrounded by a large group of older welsh folk, including several ladies dressed in glamourous formal wear - a bit surreal on a beach when you have had a few Chang beers, I can tell you - I thought I was at a Shirley Bassey tribute event! Lots of balloon launches, fireworks, barking dogs, offers of a taxi to Had Rin etc - all you could wish for from a Had ... read more

Dear All Just a note to let you know me and Nic got married on 15th September 2007, on a wonderful day for us, our families and our friends. To those of you who were able to share the day with us, thanks so much for coming. And for those who could not be there, thanks for your messages and best wishes. We'll post pictures once we get back from Canada where we are now on honeymoon, and blog our honeymoon too, so you can see what we got up to. Just now, we are in Whistler, about to head out on a 6 hour drive to the Okanagan Valley. We spent 2 days here, and walked in the woods, rode to the top of Whistler Mountain and had a great meal in RimRock Restaurant. Our ... read more

Well, that didn't last long, 6 months went like a week. We've got our bags and our off to Ipswich for the weekend, to get the car and some stuff we left at my parents. While we're at it, we'll have some home cooked food, maybe a Sunday roast. We'll check the container and look at our belongings, before spending a couple of days in London. After all that, we'll need a holiday, so we are off to Braithwaite in the Lakes, to see the gang up there for some walking and drinking. We'll be back in London after Easter, looking for work and housing. You can get Nic on 0777 607 6013 and Ady on 07970 511 608, as he has managed to get his lost number working again over the weekend. We've still got ... read more

Ady and I took the night train from Vientiane (Laos) to Bangkok this morning, Ady with a dodgy tummy and me with that dose of food poisoning!!! We arrived in Bangkok at 8am and jumped in a taxi to The good old Grand President Hotel, we are becoming locals the doormen recognise us!! As we checked in we were told we had been upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite with a lounge which was very nice... We nipped to the email quickly to check the flight details for Mum and Dad, which hadn't arrived!! After a while we convinced ourselves that they must be flying Singapore airlines as the flight came in about the right time and Mum and Dad are off to Singapore after Thailand... all made sense to us!!! We made ourselves a ... read more

Hi everyone! Hope all is well. This a just a quick note to say I lost my phone here in Luang Prabang, probably left it in the guesthouse when we checked out, rather than had it stolen - who knows? Anyway, I can't receive texts on +44 (0)7970 511 608 for the moment. I'll try to get the number working again in April, when we get home. We still have our Thai chip, although helpfully, I don't know the number for it, but if we have texted you on that, you can reply and we'll get it! The chaos of travelling! Till later, all the best from us both, Ady and Nic!... read more

Hi everyone, Just a quick message to say hello and let you know that we are ok. Sorry for the lack of blog recently. Computers have been slow and we have had Ady's Mum and Dad to stay, so we have been showing them around Ko Pha Ngan and Bangkok. We have had a lovely time with them and they were sad to leave. We are now in Laos with my sis and Dan, Ady's mate Mark and Rob and Jac a couple we met in KPN. Being such a big group is making travel easy, we commissioned our own minibus to the border of Laos for a good price and our own slow boat for 2 days down the Mekong. Which was great... The main slow boat had 140 people on and was a squash.. ... read more

As we got up to catch our early am flight from Darwin, the scantily glad clubbers were spilling out into the road... makes you feel old hey!! We arrived in Cairns at 8am and made our way to Port Douglas where Mel (7 months pregnant with twins!) kindly came to collect us. We spent the rest of the day slobbed out on the sofa watching the Australian Open drinking tea and relaxing in the bath... heaven, we hadn't seen a TV or a bath for a long time!! Mel and Maddie the dog did us proud!! Paul (my old mate from Sheffield Poly) arrived home from work looking no different to how he looked 4 years previously when we last met. Was good to see him!! In true Ozzy syle we opened a couple of cold ... read more

This is a retro post, but we wanted to share the experience with you, and the photos tell the story quite well! We had stayed the night in Fitzroy Crossing, a small township at what was a fording point for the Fitzroy River. Nowadays, there is a one lane bridge, but in days of yore I believe the river was crossed by a ford which could only be used in the dry season. It had rained all the previous day and through the night - we were in WA and the NT at the start of the rainy season. We had parked up in our campervan, which we named Brutus, in a camping bay which had become a small lake during our afternoon and evening stay. As we drank at the campsite bar (along with the ... read more

Greetings from chilly Melbourne! Christmas and New Year are covered elsewhere, so lets start on Boxing Day. I persuaded Nic to get up at 9:00, so we could try to look for tickets to the Boxing Day test. It was drizzling as we walked to the MCG, and there weren't so many touts (scalpers as the Aussies call them), but we eventually got sorted and entered the arena. The MCG has been updated since I was there on Boxing day 1998, when not a ball was bowled, and was even more impressive than before, with 96,000 there to watch. After a short rain delay, play started, with England batting. All the talk was of McGrath and Warne retiring, and Shane being one wicket away from 700 in test matches, a world record. England laboured in chilly ... read more

To all our family and friends! We hope you have had a great Christmas and New Year. Christmas in Sunny (or not so) Melbourne! It's official, the mountains of Melbourne had snow!! We didn't get it in town, but we did have heavy rain and hail stone showers!! Not quite the weather for that barby on the beach we'd been thinking of and you thought we were having!! Nonetheless Christmas day was lovely, we got up leisurely and Father Christmas had been, good job we wrote those letters to let him know where we would be! Our tree was a huge bunch of red lillies and purple gladioli which Ady bought for me on Christmas eve, the bin became a vase and we wrapped the red wrapping from the flowers around the bin. It looked pretty ... read more
