After 5 wonderful days in Istanbul we arrived at Heathrow on 31st May 2009. Caught the tube to Kings Cross Station and bought tickets to Bury Saint Edmonds. All the connections worked and we arrived at BSE at 4 pm. When the door of the shed opened the next morning there she was. I hopped in and she started straight away. There was a bit of rearranging of baggage and we were off to visit the Rapier Register's Spare parts man nearby. We had a far way to travel before we could meet up with our mates near Sailsbury. Worried about our new engine and did an oil and filter change when we arrived. A leak from the oil pressure line was cured and we were set for the trip to Portsmouth to catch the ferry ... read more

This past thursday and friday I went on a little road trip. Thursday morning I was picked up at the woolpack by Derek who used to be my mum's next door neighbour when she lived here in England and good friend to my grandparents. He drove me to Bury St Edmunds which is where mum grew up and where they met my family and lived next door to them for a long time. Along the way we stopped off at newmarket which is a big horse racing place and had a look at the millions and millions of horses there. We then arrived at their house and no sooner had we sat down we were out again to go pick up his wife Carolyn from the dentist. We had a quick bite to eat and they ... read more

Webshots Desktop One day - "House in the Clouds" image just appeared in my desktop last year. It was fed by webshots desktop daily feed to my laptop. There it was up in the sky - shrouded by the clumps clouds and mystifying mist. It was a beautiful image. I thought at that time - its a lovely picture. The house sits at the top of a long pillar. The pillar is 6 stories high rectangular sky scraper with multiple windows. A real house sits on top with high gabled roof complete with fire chimney jetting up from one side of the roof. The pillar is jet black color dotted with multiple white framed windows which are aesthetically pleasing to look at. The house itself is painted in brick red and sports couple of rectangular white ... read more

Note from Ian - no need to read this one - I've only just got round to adding it for completion's sake (if that's a word/phrase 30/12/08: Ok, for once, or maybe the second time, I'm actually writing this blog on the day I'm on! Now, once again I'm writing once again to say that we are doing a yesterday as well! Ok, here we go. (Yesterday)This first bit is only tiny compared to what I'm about to write, which covers the whole day. First, we played a cricket match, which was cool, and by the time the match ended, the ball was in 3 pieces. Now the BIG one. At 8:30 pm we went to an enclosure called The Sanctuary. It is a place where there are no predators. Mostly it is made up of ... read more

Raratonga Raratonga isn't very busy but very relaxed all we did was kayak swim play French cricket and fish spotting. when we got here it was hot and in the gate there was a guy playing the banjo. We got picked up by a guy called Robin and we drove to our villa where we were going to stay that week. Later we went out and crossed the lagoon to an island and we walked around it seeing porcupine fish on the way. We did stuff like that all week. Just a notice the bus driver's are very happy (sarcastically) We are in USA!! We have touched down at Los Angeles airport and got a big blue mini bus to our hotel then we checked in crashed then later on went swimming and went to bed ... read more

Song of the Day - Homeward Bound by Simon and Garfunkel Hello I'm writing this the day after we arrived back from LA. My body clock is well messed up - I've been sleeping whilst supposed to be working and now WIDE AWAKE... I don't think this will be the last entry - the boys and Kathryn have theirs to update and it would be probably nice to stick some more photos and videos up (something I got worse at as time went on). It was in the mid-20s in LA so we spent some time on the beach at Santa Monica. Hell of a contrast to come back to sub-zero in England (especially when we're without heating and hot water - joy)! On the reading front (if you care), I finished the holiday with Deception ... read more

Ok so there were lots of balls up in the air now and the plan was to slowly put each one down without dropping it. So here's how it went. The cars (Maizie & Phoenix) were safely stored in their lock-up warehouse and declared off road for the 6 months. So far so good. Work was crazy in the last couple of weeks due to what can only be described as the mother of all "Moses affects" - this is where you end up doing so much work before you can actually leave and then when you return it seems like you didn't really have any time off! There was a good turn out to both leaving drinks dos. Luckily for the NU lot there weren't any photos available to publish. So we both got work ... read more

This is so weird. Sitting here at 00:44 in the morning.... surrounded by boxes and unsorted personal belongings thinking in just about 4 days we will be on a flight to China!! All that's left is to pack up the house, put it in a storage container, store the cars, clear final util bills, clean the rented house, 2 more days at work handing stuff over, see the families, say goodbye to friends, setup this web blog, sort a hire van out, buy our malaria tablets, finaise or wills, sort some finances out, get the backpacking stuff together, buy some SD cards, sort some container insurance out.... the list is endless..... luckily I don't need much sleep = It will certainly be worth it.... just got to get there first...... like I said to Claire, the ... read more
