Well today we were in Bergen and the weather was supposed to clear up but it was cloudy most of the day with a few sprinkles but no real showers. Dennis and I took the 8 hr Queen of the Fjords tour which we both enjoyed as we had a fantastic guide. It started with a tour around Bergen which has a lot of historical houses and buildings. We then headed out to the country including a ferry crossing, stop at an old church, and on to Hardinger Fjord where we stopped at a hotel for a very nice buffet lunch. We’d all be a bit concerned since it was supposed to be a traditional lunch but there was plenty of variety and it was all very good. We then headed over to a waterfall and ... read more

Sometimes things just go right. Delphine, her brother Remi, and I arrived in lovely Bergen about 10 days ago after a long day of futzing around (train from Grenoble to Geneva, flight to Amsterdam, flight to Bergen Airport, Bus to town) and checked in to a forgettable hostel in the center of town. The first thing that struck all of us, after a little mental acrobatics, was how bloody expensive things were here. And we aren't talking about just a bit more expensive - try $12 for a beer, $8 for a loaf of bread, and $4 for a cup of joe. We all immediately switched into "omfg let's eat out of cans" mode, which served us well for the rest of the trip. Our intent was to find some people to help share the cost ... read more

Hi guys, Well we have made it into Norway and my god it is expensive!!!. We have visited Oslo which is a lovely city which feels no bigger then Beverley (bit bigger then Oadby). Caught a ferry across the bay and saw some old long boats (Viking long boats no less - so scott informs me) and went to see a park full of scuptures. They were very interesting.......................all naked people in funny positions!?!. Headed across norway south of a national park and that is when the moutains started. We started seeing a little snow here and there and then got closer and closer. Although there is still lots on the very tops of the highest mountains it is not all that cold. Seen some great views. Camped in a layby next to a Fjord last ... read more

So, Bri here, because Michy is busy making herself beautiful, and Alyce is tired because Michy and I made her galavant around most of Bergen in search of cultural enrichment. But anyway, back to last night. We clothed ourselves in our sexiest dresses, made our faces look delectable (but not necessarily edible) and the put on our fluourescent and somewhat crazy tightsleggings. Then we spent a considerable amount of time taking pictures of our ridiculous selves, starting with the tights. I'm sure they'll make an appearance here, so you'll all be able to feast your eyes on the awesome that the three of us make. Anyway, once we'd had our fill of giggling and playing silly buggers, we debated the temperature outside. We decided (unanimously, even though I should damn well KNOW better by now) that ... read more

After a long, restful sleep, the intrepid explorers awoke early to a fresh 3 degrees C morning... We wandered downstairs to our free-of-charge breakfast. Turns out the Norwegians enjoy sardines and nutella-in-tubes, but we did manage to secure some wonderful coffee, toast and cereal. We strolled down to the fish market on the wharf and discovered a beautiful pewter and stirling silver jewellry store where we purchased some lovely objects. We visited Bryggen, which we discovered is slowly but surely sinking into the ocean... (but evermore, what isn't?) Most of the buildings seemed to be shut up, we couldn't figure out if we were too early for opening hours or if they were under repair (many were on a fairly angry angle!)... The Bryggen museum was shut (again, too early...turns out these Norwegians enjoy sleeping in) ... read more

Our plane was delayed twice in KL - first due to a mix-up on the terminal resulting in a later estimated departure time, secondly by a mechanical error. Although the malfunction only took about 20 minutes to fix, we missed our departure spot and had to wait for another one to open up. All in all, we left two hours later than planned. Michele slept like a baby (a baby with a slightly broken neck and alot of drool) but Alyce remained wide eyed for the endurance of the 12 hr 40 minute flight, leaving her feeling slightly deranged by the time we reached Amsterdam. As we touched down, a friendly Dutchman informed us that Amsterdam airport was once a huge lake (which had since been drained) and we were, infact, 4 feet below sea level. ... read more

Dag 190 - 207. Vi fikk ... read more

Coucou! Becs... read more

Well every story needs a conclusion, so this is mine... After saying goodbye to the latest in a long line of dear friends on thursday morning the 4th of September, I left Sue's place and headed out to the airport for the first of my three flights from Zurich to Stockholm to Oslo to Bergen. I must admit it felt a little strange arriving back in Bergen, since it was the first time in three months that I had arrived in a town that I was already familiar with. But it was definately nice to be back in the beautiful little harbour city that I had grown so fond of previously, and despite Erika having moved to Paris two weeks earlier, it was great to see Nina's smiling face again - especially since we had tickets ... read more

Hello! It's been a little too long since my last entry, but it's pretty easy to get caught up in day to day things and all of a sudden you realize that your semester is half over! A lot has been going on here in good ol' Norway, but the most exciting part was that I went to Bergen! For those of you unfamiliar with Norwegian geography, Bergen is on the west coast amongst some beautiful fjords. Locals take pride in how much rain they receive (something like 250 days out of the year). Luckily for our weekend trip, my friends Margit and Sara, and I had beautiful weather. We took the overnight train to Bergen which was really comfortable, and actually a great way to make the 6.5 hour trip go by quickly. After arriving ... read more
