May 22, 2008 We did the tour of Dachau today. We met once again at the same tour office that we’d used for the prior tours. In fact, our guide was again Steve. He did the Nazi/Hitler tour of Munich on Tuesday afternoon with us. He was very knowledgeable of the subject matter and helped us with other questions, such as how do we get to the BMW pick up site on Friday. We left the station again at 9:15am. The ride over was only about 20-30minutes which indicates how close to Munich the concentration camp is. As Munich was home to the Nazi Party (National Socialist Party), it was natural that when Hitler was elected Chancellor in 1933, that a means would be established to handle his, and the party’s enemies. First off, Benj, YES! Döner Kebobs or Dönar Kebops (I've seen them spelled both ways here) are amazing! I would have gotten one today for dinner, but my bus came before I had a chance. Ok, today. Today I went to a small town in the Black Forest called Alpirsbach. It has one of the oldest Klosters (monistaries) in Germany and also one of the oldest still running beer brewries. I, along with four other people (two other students, the boyfriend of one of the other students, and a guy that works at SIT and is a student at the Tübingen Universität, this guy is named Florian and he leads all of the excursions and also was my guide around Tübingen my first day here) went through the monistary, a museum, and the brewery. It was ... read more

Hello everyone! I know it has been quite a while since my last entry...but we have been without computers in the past stays. The last time i wrote I was in Kelzemberg, Germany. since then we traveled to Austria and stayed in a hikers hostel outside of Blüdenz, Austria. We were right in the middle of the Alps. We sang a concert in a city hall building, which really was not as fun as in a church because of a smaller response, but it was alright. That was probably the start of mz sickness. I didnt feel so good that night and it continued to the next day. We stayed there two nights, so it was nice to get a break from host homes, except i was in a room with 16 girls, and there were ... read more

Well we've arrived in Hamburg, Germany after 36 hours on succession of planes chasing the sun across the globe. High points - we had a nice flight on Air New Zealand to Hong Honk and ate real chinese food for the first time (or at least as real as you can get in an airport), and we almost saw the Himilayas and think we saw Tibet... there was definitely lots of snowy mountains and lots of flat on the Tibetan Planes. Anyway, Ive got to rush this because its hard to find internet around here and Ive got two more days to cover before our next bus leaves. - Nigel... read more

I'm collecting Canadians! In Munich for that matter! Saturday - after a quiet day to myself I met Jessi at the train station. She's been staying with her host family in Venice for the last little while. I know it sounds like a dream vacation, but alas things are far more complicated than that. It was wonderful to be able to meet someone at the train station - kind of like sharing your adventure with them. The same applies to airports I guess, it might very well be the best place in the world to people watch. That would make the train station the second best for sure. We headed to Kate's for some wine and catching up. It had begun to rain that afternoon, which was sad because the weather was so beautiful for the ... read more

Here are a few pictures from the Church of Ss. Peter and Paul in Straelen, where I studied organ improvisation today with Otto Krämer. He had given a brilliant masterclass in Birmingham in 2006, so I figured I might as well take some lessons from him since I was so close by. I believe he said the church was built in 1490. Tonight, we visited several bars in Münster's old city. We had our first encounter with a German bachelor party. Their custom is that the unfortunate groom must do something to earn enough money to buy drinks for all his friends. In this case, he was selling single-shot liquor bottles. I'm not sure how well that went over with the management. All the men dress alike, except for the groom, who has to look ridiculous. ... read more
