Friday - I'm off to see my other half - together in Munich two years ago we survived the chaos and stupid girl politics by combining our forces and coming out on top. The trip to Heidelberg was wonderfully uneventful. Managed to make both trains and their connections. People watching in Vienna before departure was fabulous - I lost count of the number of people wandering around the station with home-made signs around their necks all but begging for tickets to Sunday's final game. Made it to see Jessi alive in one piece, oh - with a brutal illness that threatened to knock me over at any second. I was living in a beautiful place called Denial and there's no sickness there. Met the host family that Jessi's been living with/working for/abused by and we ... read more

I suppose this may qualify as the biggest cheater entry ever, at least in my world. I think Lana has two worse entries than I do - case in point "Antarctica" and the Greece ones from home. But I suppose it's best that they are written as opposed to being forgotten completely. It's been a whirlwind of a last few days and I will do my best to capture what I can, it may be best to ask me about some of these RIDICULOUS situations in person and we can share a good laugh about my story-telling antics. I suppose some of you are imagining me rolling my eyes or raising my voice or even flapping my hands about (as I have a tendency to do), but hey - nothing beats the real thing right? :) ... read more

My apologies for the curtness of the last few blogs, it's been a rough few days where I had to remind myself that I was on holiday and supposed to be having fun. Sometimes coming up with a "stay positive" mantra is harder than people give it credit. But hey, Switzerland has calmed my soul - and I've just finished paying an arm (not the leg too, just an arm) for internet that will last me until I leave here - so away we go! As a side note I find it hilarious that the only way I know what days of the week to put here is by checking the calendar where I have the places I'm supposed to be blocked off. That's the best part of being on holiday I guess - doesn't really ... read more

Monday cont... Had a nap after the blog and then wandered down the street and crashed into some beautiful Gaudi work. One of which was a house that had an incredible free audio tour; learned everything I wanted to know about Gaudi and more! Returned to the hostel after a few hours to shower and feel like a real person again. Decided that I should stop being an anti-social fly and make some friends. There was a "Flamenco and Tapas Tour" that I decided would be a good idea. It was mostly a glorified pub crawl - a silly stop for unknown tapas and then a little Flamenco show, which is actually a tradition from southern Spain and only done up in Barcelona for the tourists. It was off to a few bars, bouncing around the ... read more

That quote came up three times on the D-Day tour - it was our guide Dale's general comment on how "welcome" the "unwelcome" are. But again - I get ahead of myself... This may be the biggest cheater entry do date - as well as the longest. Grab a cup of coffee or a mug of tea and settle in folks, it's been a gong show since the interweb and I were last connected. Thursday - Woke up bright and early to the realization that I had some serious decision-making to do. Fluttered around the internet for a while before finally reaching for the stars - to the amusement of Justin (the Aussie sitting across the table from me doing the same thing), I had a mini spaz when I booked Barcelona. What? I'm going to ... read more

Anna and I have been joking for most of the trip about this. Dear Blog, there are a lot of stairs in Europe. Love, Nicky. However - this is true. People in Paris don't believe in escalators or elevators - and most europeans apparently don't believe in air conditioning; but I'm getting ahead of myself. Monday - Managed to drag myself out of bed early to beat the other 7 people in my room to the shower. There was no way I was heading to a meeting about my future smelling like "eau de packer". A quick breakfast and a 40 minute train ride later I was in Mainz. It's a beautiful city further along the Rhine from Frankfurt - passed some incredible Roman ruins on my way into the main train station, wished I had ... read more

Lana refers to these as "cheater" entries - I guess it's about time I did one. I blame HI Brussels for charging me 1,5€ for an hour of internet. It's the first place (and thus far only) that has charged me for wireless. As much as I adore updating everyone, that hour was needed for more important things (like figuring out how to get out of Brussels). But on to the update! Thursday cont. - Made it to Brussels in one piece after a WONDERFUL train ride. The comfort of the train made up for all of the garbage I had to deal with at the train station. For the first time I did what my rail pass is supposed to allow me to do - I got on the train I wanted and just sat ... read more

...you never go back! I'm going to take a brief interlude here to write an ode to my travel towel - quite possibly the best invention ever! Travel Towel so blue How, oh how I adore you You keep me bone dry I barely have to try One wipe and it's done I can begin my day of fun Travel Towel so blue How, oh how I adore you For those of you who have never experienced the joy that is a microfiber towel, I can't possibly put into words how very exciting this fabric is. One wipe and you're dry. It practically sucks the water off your body no matter how wet it is. Drying is a joke, it hangs for maybe a half hour in humid air and is good to go again. It ... read more

I just wasn't prepared for what happened after the last post; bear with me folks - this is going to be a long one. Wednesday evening - I stayed home for a quiet evening. Wrote the last blog entry, did some laundry in the sink, did some dishes - and then my computer started acting funny. It was taking forever to load, running very slowly and making some funny noises. I turned it off for the evening and assumed things would be better in the morning. Thursday - Not better, not better at all. Took over 45 minutes to load but managed to get it to full power. Was still acting funny so I turned it off and had a shower. Came back only to have it refuse to even boot up. Was making new ticking ... read more

We're here! (Here being Prague!) Friday (where I left off) - We collected ourselves and headed to the Hofbräuhaus for "beer and meat," to be eaten in that order. A liter of beer (yum yum!) and a massive pile of sausage, potatoes, schnitzel and bretzels later we were off to a piece of theatre entitled Brain F*ck. After a random tram ride and some jokes about experimental German theatre we wound up at this theatre in the middle of an industrial district, it had distinct echoes of a random "church converted into a theatre in the middle of nowhere" that Jessi and I wound up at two years ago. We wandered inside and found a comfy space which included couches, chairs, carpeting and bunk beds. Eternally hopeful, as we waited for the box office to open ... read more
