Hello all! As many of you know, I am travelling in Europe right now and promised to keep you all up to date with some kind of travelblog. So here it is . Obviously if any of you no longer want to hear about my adventures let me know and I’ll take you off the list. My crazy adventure began a little more than a week ago (Thursday) when I spent what was literally a day in transit (left my house at 6 am, got to Frankfurt at 8 am). It was a relatively smooth journey except for the pair of toddlers that refused to stop crying or sit down and caused the plane to turn around after sitting on the jetway for half an hour in order to let them off the plane. I’ve never ... read more

Our visit to the famous Hofbräuhaus (literally, "court brewery") deserved its own entry. Good food, good beer, and good entertainment. Chris and Katie joined us, so we had all seventeen Ausreißer together tonight. We were definitely the loudest table in the whole place! Patrick... read more

Our Top Deck Tour Bus is continuing north through Dresden and Berlin. Germany...whats the point of having an Autobahn where you can fly along at 160kmh, when you're stuck in a 100km traffic jam? First stop was Dresden. Remember it's dads birthday and got to go find a phone somewhere. THIS CITY HAS NO PUBLIC PHONES. Anyway, only here for a few hours so time for a coffee and a quick bit of sightseeing. The City was entirely destroyed in the war but they've rebuilt most of it, including the cathedral (brick by brick). A few hours up the road and we're in Berlin. Plenty of sightseeing here and heaps to do. First things first and we've got some Karaoke dinner to go to. Busted out a (bad) version of Losing my Religion as you do. ... read more

Hello Everyone! We are here in Dusseldorf, Germany!! We are safe and had a fabulous trip and first day in Europe. Our flight was amazing. We highly recommend LTU for your next international flight! They fed us every half hour, gave us blankets (which are going to turn into our beach towels in a week or so), pillows, socks, even a tooth brush! We have had some encounters with a few entertaining characters already and cannot wait to see who else we will meet in the next three weeks! We are staying in a very nice hostel tonight. We leave tomorrow morning for Amsterdam. We have already learned many important lessons and had plenty of laughs. We will share all the stories with you soon but now it's time for bed because we are trying to ... read more

After saying farewell to my buddies in Amsterdam and venturing out on my own via the overnight train to Berlin (this train could have gone longer and i would not have complained- i had a bed car and was not ready to get up yet!), i was ready for some adventures to call all my own. I checked my bags with my hotel and hit the sightseeing spots right away. I must say- i did Berlin right- sightseeing right upfront and then partying! Berlin is so rich with history and theres a lot to see and do there. I loved Berlin and would have to call it one of my favorite stops on this tour! I really enjoyed the view from the top of the Reichstag and orientating myself with where everything was located. I walked ... read more

5/15/08 I have absolutely LOVED every aspect of Munich! Its beautiful, friendly, they speak English, they don’t take life too seriously and they have a great love of beer which is evident down every street corner. It is unbelievable to me that this is the city where Hitler formed the Nazi party! We have been talking a lot about how really Hitler just was saying what people needed to hear when their money was completely worthless, their first democratic government was failing them, and they desperately needed a scapegoat. Hitler provided one and offered ideas on how to fix their economy. Theirs was incredibly enough, worse than ours right now. Four million Deutschmarks equaled ONE US dollar! Literally it would take a barrel of bills to buy a loaf of bread. Anyway, back to my point, ... read more

Was sollte jetzt noch schief gehen?

(Slower please!) Ladies and gentlemen, we have a learning curve. Please note that this "curve" is actually more of a ninety degree angle - which makes the "curve" more of an "obstacle resembling a wall" than anything else. Learn or get the hell outta the way, the world is going on without you! Actually, it's been great. Yesterday I bought a Handy (cell phone) in German! After getting the phone back to the hostel and messing around for about twenty minutes I caved and changed the phone to English. Things are much easier now, except the service provider keeps sending me text messages in German. Thank goodness for German/English dictionaries. After that adventure it was off to the theatre! The university is the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) and unlike back home the buildings are spread out all over ... read more

So today we woke up, after missing the alarm clock going off at 8am and walked to the church and had breakfast with the choir. We then discovered that after staying up late last night figuring out where to go from our German family, that the pastor of the church was giving us a bus tour instead!! I was rather upset, and we werent really able to pick out everywhere we went, but it turned out alright. We went and saw the Olympic Stadium, the what they call "Chick on a stick", Schloss Charlettenburg(castle), The White House of Germany(Schloss Belevu), the German parliament building, and the Gate in the city(cant remember these names) but its where Hitler ended his reign, saw the Holocaust Memorial, the longest stretch left of the Berlin Wall, The Alexander Plaz, which ... read more

Soooo... it´s my last day in Sevilla! Just picked up all my luggage at school... now have to find something to do with it all until 9pm tonight because we fly out at 10. It´s going to be a long night... 13 hour layover in Madrid, then home to chicago at 2:20 tomorrow afternoon! As for the past week for travels... so much fun. The rest of Greece was awesome. We went to the island of Santorini for the 2nd half of the week. Beautiful. We spend 3 days exploring the island of ATVs, laying out on the beach, hanging out at our favorite "beach bar" and the last day Kelly, Michael and I rode donkeys down 600 steps in Fira, which was awesome. After taking an overnight ferry back to Athens, we had to decide ... read more
