Yes! I arrived in Stuttgart yesterday evening, passed out on my rather comortable bed last night, woke up early this morning, walked a half hour (with my host mother) to the school. I took a placement test (three tests actually) and then i spent the rest of the day in my class. At 2:30 I went for a walking tour of the city, it started out as one guy and me and ended up as three guys and me, haha, I had three tour guides. They were all students at the Tübingen Universität and they worked for SIT. there are 80,000 einwohner in Tübingen, 75,000 of which are students of one kind or another. I took a few pictures of the landscape and the buildings here, it is BEAUTIFUL! we are surrounded by small mountains, and ... read more

Any experience, anytime, anyplace. Just show up. I went places and tried things I never have before. Berliners have a way of making you feel comfortable with dropping your American cool and just joining in the fun. You can become anyone. Just follow some basic rules of organization, engineering and privacy and you're fine.... read more

After an 8 hour flight to Frankfurt, Germany and then a 7 hour bus drive to Berlin, Michal Joy and I are now settled into a beautiful apartment in the city with a family from the church. This will be a rather short blog only because of us sitting in the room all together and I feel bad. Hopefully the pictures work! Only a few taken from the plane or on the bus. more later!!!... read more

I was also contemplating titling this entry "back in the world of beautiful gentlemen" but decided that this statement is the most relevant right now. I didn't sleep on the plane and that may have been the root of my problem. Kate picked me up from the airport - she's an amazing soul who rented a car with her boyfriend for the occasion. They made sure I was safe and sound at the hostel before disappearing to return the car and run a few errands. Kate spent time in Edmonton last year - she was on an exchange for a year with us. I'll see more of her later in the week I am sure. Had a nap yesterday and then headed off to an outdoor concert with Bernd. Bernd and I met almost three years ... read more

Talk about a big 24 - 26 hours! We had a really lazy day on our last day in Amsterdam - Friday, and had a reasonably early night that night. Our mission for the next two days was to get to Nurburg to have a go on the 'Nordschleife' ractrack, and then get to Paris by Sunday night to meet up with Mick. We left Amsterdam at 10:30 Saturday morning, and arrived after lunch in Cologne where we picked up (the most expensive jalopy ever!) a hirecar. We then drove an hour or so to Nurburg and checked into our hotel. Had a nice dinner that night, and a fairly early night, as we had to be at the racecar place at 7:30 the next morning. Got the car, and went to the track, where Theo, ... read more

The second Munich excursion was a bit of a shambles, but thats what happens sometimes. A friend of mine, Nanyan Wang and I went to the big city with the goal in mind to go to church, to a charismatic church which we heard of from another african friend. So the day started an hour late when we missed the first train (we missed it even before leaving the wohnheim, slow start to the day) So toe is ons munich toe met die idee om na die Deutsches Museum toe te gaan, maar die plan het deur die mar geval toe ons besef dat ons net 1h daar sal kan spandeer en €3 vir die tyd is teveel. So toe is ons na die Marienplatz toe om ietsie te ete te kry, en daarna is ons ... read more

Bright and early on Mother’s Day, we head north towards the Rhine River. The bus drops us off in Rüdesheim where we meet up with the Loreley cruise ship. We settle in on the upper level, shaded from the intense sun by a canopy but enjoying the cool breeze off the river, as we chat with friends and view castle after castle as we pass by miles of vineyards and quaint towns on one of the world’s only north-flowing rivers. The Rhine is a main route of commerce for Germany and today you still see dozens of cargo ships floating up and downstream. The existence of the numerous castles is due to the fact that, years ago, when someone owned the land along the river, they also owned the section of river that passed through it. ... read more
