Just a quick stop over in Berlin to pick up Margo and to see Kit Belgum and Michael Herring for dinner. Yes, it is a bit of a detour off the road from Budapest to Krakow, but definitely worth the trip. I got to show a friend a bit of a city I love, see two friends for dinner and catch up on something I missed. What could be a better 2 days than that? Saturday, May 24th: Easy train ride to Prague, though there was a bit of confusion at the very end, and I had to make sure I was at Hlavni Nadrazi (Main Station in Czech) and not one of the satellite stations - I would joke about this, but Bethany and I did this 3 years ago in this same city - ... read more

One Day: When we arrived at the train station, we went to our couchsurfing.com host's (Norbs) house, and he was not at home. When we called him he told us he had the dates mixed up for our arrival. He told us he would be home in the afternoon and we can come back then. Lucky for us, the train station had locker where we could store our stuff. We decided to just go back to the station, store our bags and head to Dachau to go to the work camp and catch up with Norbs when we got back. We left all our stuff, except what we would need for the night, in a locker (5 Euro) and set out for Dachau. While we were putting our stuff in the locker, a huge group of ... read more

They say that the first half of your trip crawls by, while the second half of your trip flies by---so far, this has been true for me. If it wasn't entirely obvious in my last entry (and I'm sorry it's been so long since I've written. As much as I love to inform you all of this grand adventure, I tend to forget to write in my paper journal, so 20 years from now this will be the place I turn to remember what I did--so I hate to slack on my entries) I was really sad to leave Paris, despite the fact I do know I'll be back (possibly sooner than later). This made the 6 hour train ride from Paris to Munich a little bit bitter sweet. On the train I was sitting with ... read more

Today was wonderful! We woke up a little too early for my liking, but went to church to sing in the service. It was once again full and at CHURCH we were asked to sing our gospel song at the end! it was great. I started tearing up as we sang Alle de Shöönheit for the last time. I cannot believe we are leaving Germany tomorrow. I was looking forward to Germany the least and now no one wants to leave it. We arent even excited about France or Spain. After the church service, we had a huge picnic in the meadows outside of Hülben. It turned into a beautiful 74 degree day! we played lots of fütball and ate plenty and too much food and then did some german dances with the families! everyone is ... read more

So, the pictures that dissapeared yesterday suddenly reappeared today while I was wandering around Stuttgart! So, yeah, I added some of my pictures from Alpirsbach, Schwarzwald. Today I went to Stuttgart, it was a lot less exciting than I had hoped, but I did get to wander around the Altstadt of the capital of Baden-Württemberg and go through an art museum. After so long of cold and wet, today was a suprise, warm and humid! Enjoy the pictures (enjoy the pictures from the Kloster in the Black Forest, I didn't take many in Stuttgart) Bethany... read more

Well, its been too long. No WiFi at the current accommodation means this one's on the run cause $8 Euro per hour is really pushing the holiday budget. Where did I leave off...mmmm... thats right... we were leaving Berlin to head to Leipzig & Dresden. Well as it turns out we spent an extra day in Berlin & then decided to skip L&D for more time in the Czech Republic... but before I cover the finer details of eastern European culture I shall pick up from that lovely Spring time weather in Berlin. After such a fantastic free bike riding tour we thought it wise to go with the same company for a day trip to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. We were not disappointed - the tour guide Desiree, is a native German and had us all ... read more

So our time here has been wonderful. Such a warm and welcoming family that I am staying with, but pretty much everyone has a great home here! Today we were able to sleep in til 830! it was so nice! Frööshtuk was not until 9 because we didnt need to be at the church again until 10. We went into the city of Ulm. The main part of the day was to visit the Ulma Munster...which means the Ulm Church. It was HUGE! the largest cathedral in the world!...well tallest at least. We actually were part of there 1130 service so we were able to sing 3 songs and it was great. Then tehre was an organ concert that we could stay for, which we ended up doing so because it was such an amazingly huge ... read more

Most of us went to the Hafenfest last night. There was a lot of loud American music and plenty of loud drunk people. The three of us who were staying with families in the city of Telgte had a terrific barbecue dinner with one of our host families before joining the others in Münster. My host brother came home for the weekend yesterday afternoon from the university in Maastricht (Netherlands). As promised, he kept me out until after 5 a.m. This reminds me: nightfall is not until around 10:15 in Germany, and daybreak is around 5. Anyway, we went to a party with lots of college students and had a great time. Much to my surprise, I was quite popular. Everyone was really nice, and they all spoke good English. I got a few hours of ... read more

This is the start of a new chapter of our trip. We caught the new TGV train (new and super fast) from Paris to Stuttgart where we picked up our motorHOME for the next 10 weeks. Our first destination was Bavaria where we caught up with friends - Silke, Michael, Uwe, Hieko, and Sven. They were staying on a dairy farm. The first thing we noticed was the lack of fencing. The cows stay mainly in the shed and each day the farmer goes out to cut some grass and take it to the cows... The Bavarian country side was beautiful and very green. Whilst there, we attended a luncheon of the local farmers where we dined on scrumptous Bavarian food and desserts, and more desserts. When we left Bavaria we headed South, and the first ... read more
