The air felt different in Barcelona. Anyone who has traveled knows the sensation of stepping off the plane and onto the "bridge" and how you can smell and feel the difference in the air. The air felt heavier, and perhaps it was just my imagination, but even from the airport I felt like I could smell the salt in the air. My flight landed about an hour before Amber's, so I sat and waited by the gate for her. It was fun listening to people speaking Catalan and Spanish - it sounded so easy and smooth, especially compared to the often fiery sounding German. People had colour on their skin... it already felt like a whole new world. As I waited I also took the time to grab the world's LARGEST tourist map. For some reason ... read more
One of the things I forgot to mention about Jessi's apartment is the rather unstable ladder she has going up to her bed. It's a long ladder, because the bed is actually quite far up. The ladder is, to say the least, a little wobbly. Jessi has tried to fix it, and there's even been a qualified carpenter type man come to look at it - but because the ladder is old and an irregular size, it's not easily replaced. So Jessi takes a treacherous trip up to bed every night. As I may have mentioned before Jessi likes to have the odd drink, so imagine her coordination to climb said high/broken ladder after a night (or a morning) on the town. When Jessi left for Oli's, this was my first time in a while alone ... read more
I'm sorry. I know it's been a while. Internet has been a bit tricky this trip. I think this might be the last time I travel in europe without some kind of computer. My iphone is great for doing little things, but booking hostels, flights etc is a bit harder on it. And often it doesn't work well with wireless. Plus typing anything longer than a few sentences is a pain. I would like one of those tiny netbooks. So if you're feeling generous, I will accept this donation. In return I'll write to you. Or at the very least give you a distinguished head nod in public. Smiling is extra. My last night in Paris actually is a great example of why I love to travel. Sitting under the Eiffel tower with a bunch of ... read more
Before I actually begin this entry, I just want to mention I read over what I wrote last time and I will actually take a second to apologize for all those typos. The computer at the hostel was really slow, so you couldn't actually see what you were typing - after almost typing a full sentence it would then appear... so I really couldn't see what I was writing. One day when I'm bored and procrastinating, I'll probably go back and fix them. But, regardless, I'm sure you got the idea - I LOVE PARIS. In case that wasn't clear. One thing I forgot to mention about my trip to the Louvre - at one point, in a section full of Greek relics, I came across an older couple from the southern USA. The wife was ... read more
I have six minutes to write this until i run out of internet time. That's not a lot of time to craft a hilarious yet poignant look at my last few days here. So when in doubt please refer to the title of this entry. The last couple of days I've done some things that my dad would find boring. Museums and art galleries. I went to the Pompidou, the modern art museum after writing my last entry. I did like it quite a bit, it has a lot of Matisse and Picassos. Mostly though, I liked the buidling itself. It has these long tubes every where. One of which use used as the "hallway" for the escalators. It was about 45 degrees in there, but it was still pretty cool. The pompidou also has an ... read more
Oh... Hello. From le Paris. Missed me? Probably not...yet anyway. I've only been gone four days, although from here it feels more like a week. They always say that the first half of your trip feels like forever and the second half flies by. This probably made worse by jetlag... If you are new to my travel blog, here are my "rules" - time is money in internet cafes so there is no reading them over, and they are family friendly... mostly because most people who read this are family. Although, i highly doubt that this trip can have as much debauchery as the last one. I am typing from the hostel I used to stay in when I came here. i'm sure one day i'll stay again ... but i'm not doing so at the ... read more
So I leave the day after tomorrow. This time skipping the UK all together and flying right into Paris. Amelie references will be made. So will lots more typos. And family friendly editing. Things that will not happen: -stolen wallets -stolen cameras -crazy Irish women who attack me on planes Things that will happen again: -International drinking with Jessi -Really cheesy things said by me in this blog -CB (that is non-family friendly reference for any of my friends who feel like reading into that) I leave the day after tomorrow and all I've packed is socks. Here we go friends... Europe Round Two. I'm calling it Thirty Days For Thirty... That's years... in case you forgot. Just like last time, I promise not to take the time to read entries over... ... read more
Here are a few pictures. About three from each city. This is for "you know who", because she made this request. I believe she may be the biggest blog fan of all time. ... read more
I realize it's been quite some time since I was actually in London. Almost three weeks actually. Somehow though, many of you seemed to have liked reading this, so I thought for all of you, my adoring readers/fans, and really for myself as well, I would write about the last four days of my trip. I have put it off for a reason I guess, you know "living in the now" and such--but I feel like I can write about it now and not feel depressed about it. Well I'll feel a little bit depressed. On the other hand, 20 years from now, when I'm menopausal, coloring my hair not for fun but to cover up the grey, and am known as the crazy bunny lady from down the street who does performance art that involves ... read more
Our round trip flight from Frankfurt to Crete on Condor (a German airline), was quite a steal. It only cost us 170 Euros. Considering how far we went that is quite the deal, if you flew that far within North America I'm sure you'd be likely to pay almost twice that much. While on the flight home, I took a picture of Jessi and Jono making the general sad face. The pouty "look how cute we are and isn't it just awful that we have to leave this beautiful paradise", kind of look. I then did what I always did for the past 2.5 months--i put my camera back in a pouch in my purse. Like normal, I did what any good passenger does, and I looked in the little basket on the seat in front ... read more
