Our last day. We got up and had a good breakfast at the hotel, packed up our bags and checked out. We left our bags at the hotel because the bus was going to pick us up later. It was hot and sunny. We set off to Sentosa Island on the MRT (metro) and headed for the Luge ride. The first luge was in Rotorua! It was really cool driving the little luge cars. When we got to the bottom we caught the sky ride back up, and did it again and again! When we had used all our tickets up we went to get tickets for the butterfly and insect house. While we were doing this it started to rain, really hard and then he thunder and lightening started! It was a bit scary. We ... read more

We hit the publish button too soon from yesterdays blog so I'm going to add it here... After our catch up nana nap we decided to have another go on the Singapore Flyer; in the dark. It gets dark here quite early so just after 7.30pm we set off walking to the flyer, it took a bit longer than mum expected as we didn't really know our exact route, we just headed to the flyer! When we got there we got our tickets and got in the line. Just before we were due to hope on the fireworks started, and by he time were in our pod they had finished. The ride was still really good with lots of buildings lit up. After our ride we had some tea at the Singapore Food trail. There were ... read more

We all like Singapore and it was a beautiful warm and sunny morning when we arrived, 29 degrees. None of us slept so we were all a bit sleepy and tired. We had a bus at the airport to take us to our hotel, which had changed to what was on our itennary. We waited for about an hour while some more people on the stopover package gathered then we were off to our hotel, this time it was the Peninsula Excelsior Hotel, it is flash! It has a cool pool in the lobby that has a glass side! Because we were so early ( it was about 8.30am when we arrived our room was not ready), so we left our bags and walked up to Chinatown. It was quiet, not that many people around and ... read more

We enjoyed our last breakfast in Paris today before packing the 3 full suitcases into the tiny lift and catching a taxi to the airport. It was warm and overcast the Paris streets busy and lots of sirens were going. Mum was a bit nervous as she only had €78 left and the hotel had told her the taxi would be about €60. As we were driving along the tarrif counter slowly crept past 60 then to 70! We got to the airport and it cost €75 so we had just enough! We checked our bags in and waited for the boarding. It was very clean and there was English signs, it was all very easy. Before we knew it we were on the plane to Singapore. It was a long 13 and a half hour ... read more

Our last day in the south of France. And almost heading home! today we woke and had a yummy breakfast in the Hotels breakfast room, there was fresh fruit (strawberries and kiwi fruit) and crepes with chocolate sauce, as well as the normal eggs, bacon, cheese, breads and pastries. After breakfast we checked out of the hotel but left our bulging backpacks for collection later on. We walked along the harbour front past the daily fresh fish markets, there was even some live octopus! It was quite smelly and very hot. We found the little white train/bus and decided to take a sightseeing trip around Marseille. The little train took us around the other side of the harbour, along the coast and thru the narrow streets to the church on the hillside that we had seen ... read more

We woke to another beautiful sunny day and headed off to our little beach after breakfast for a swim before leaving. The Tour de France rides thru Vileneuve Loubet about mid day and we saw the signs on our walk from the station yesterday so we know where we can wait. Our swim didn't last very long because I got stung by something in the water! It really hurt and I had to go back to the room and put some cream on it! (Picture attached) We had to leave the hotel by 11am so we headed off to find a spot on the roadside. There were people gathering around but nothing like yesterday so we got a piece of footpath and sat and waited for the riders to come thru. It only took about a ... read more

Europe » France July 3rd 2013

We headed down to the beach after breakfast for a swim before the Tour De France started. We hopped in to the lovely blue water and swam for about an hour. There were heaps more people today and lots of tents and viewing boxes everywhere. At midday we went up to find a place to see the race. I got a spot in front, where the race was due to finish. We waited for nearly three hours, it was really hot. There were a few cyclists that were racing before the proper time trial started and there was a parade of the sponsors, the water one squirted water out of a big hose at the crowd. When the time trials started I tried to take photos of them passing but they were so fast it was ... read more

Another hot and sunny day in Nice. We had breakfast and headed off on foot to the beach, their were not that many people there at 9.30 but it was warm and sunny so we got a spot on the pebbles and me and dad jumped in! The water is really blue and it gets deep straight away. It is salty. We didn't have towels so we had to dry out in the sun. A ore and more people arrived and hopped into the water. We had another look at the supporter tents for the Tour de France which are all along the Promenade des Anglais. Dad got a top and we got some free sunhats, mum got a cute little red one! We left dad at the beach and went to get some lunch from ... read more

Today we had a long train ride from Paris to Nice. We were on the train for nearly 6 hours! We think it is about 1000km. But the time went quite quickly. We had a table so dad and I played cards. The countryside leaving Paris is full of large paddocks of green, brown and lavender, there is lots of hay, vineyards and lavender Fields. It is pretty. When we got to the coast you could see the blue sparkly water and lots of boats. It is hot and sunny. We arrived at Nice and managed to find our hotel, only about 10 mins walk from the station, then walked down towards the beach front. Most of the shops were open even though it is Sunday and there are lots of people around, all with bikinis ... read more

Our last day in Paris! It rained last night and it i was quite wet this morning. We set off after breakfast to Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur. We had to catch 2 metros and even though it is Saturday morning it is still really busy! We arrived and walked up the little cobblestone street, lined with little shops spilling on to the pavement. There were lots of people around and some strange men who were trying to sell something, that were grabbing at people. I didn't like it at all. We walked up to the top and took some photos, then had a look around the shops and cafes at the top. Mum wanted a picture of me from one of the street artists but they looked scary so we didn't. We wandered back down ... read more
