Scuba diving in Thailand never fails to impress. The variety of sea-life and the spectaular underwater scenery are just amazing. I have been on 10 dives since I arrived 4 days ago, and they have all been stunning. The visibility isn't as great as the last time I was here, but it is still better than a day in the office! Over the past few days I have petted Leopard Sharks, seen stingrays, more fish than there are stars in the sky, and even swam with turtles today. I had a little delay in getting to Thailand, the plane from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was slightly delayed, meaning that I missed my connecting flight to Phuket. No big deal, a night in Kuala Lumpur and some local delicasies and I made the flight the next day. ... read more

Soooooo.... we are no longer hiking up Fuji. We are now taking a flight to Singapore on Monday. The showtime is 0300, which means I will not be getting any sleep at all tomorrow. The flight is an 8.5 hour flight and nothing but storms in the forecast! Oh well, shit happens. Take care guys and love always, ~KRIS~... read more

Yes...but another shitty bus ride...and this one is the worst one yet. The other passengers are the rudest i have met yet...they lay their seats all the way back boxing u in..and when u go to put your seat back..the person behing u gets mad...really feeling like i could punch someone out...where's Tina when I need her....lol. Becca has a much better trip this time..last bus she spent it sitting by the toilet...on the bus...can u imagine...barffing and crapping. This time she got a good seat with a very cute hippie boy from Australia....At least the person next to me was a quiet girl...so quiet that i'm sure she must have taken a handful of sleeping pills cause she was knocked right out the whole trip. Works for me. So back to Bangkok...unfortunately we couldn't get ... read more

So, you would think that in most countries they have a system in place to move people from one side of the border to the other...like perhaps a customs officer comes onto our bus and processes each of us or you have enough officers to handle the volume of traffic they typically get.... Well, not in China! We were told that we would be driving to the border, changing buses and then getting a Hong Kong driver to take us to the hotel. When we got there, we had to take all of our stuff and WALK across the border to Hong Kong...with 8,000 (est) Chinese day visitors to Hong Kong!!!! It took us 4 hours to make it over and that is with cutting the line at some places (rude Americans). We took in total ... read more

I don't know where to start. I have just finished the most difficult ten days of my entire life. When I came out of the monastery after the meditation retreat, I had no idea what to expect. I am still not sure really what effect this experience will have on how I view life and the world around me because I am still sort of dazed (and have just woken up from only three hours of sleep because I can't sleep on these soft mattresses). Even if my outlook on life isn't radically altered and I don't become a very very calm person devoted to relieving the world of suffering, I overcame so many personal obstacles on this retreat, from things as simple as sitting absolutely still for hours and bearing the pain in my legs ... read more

The Death Boat After a leisurely breakfast at a lovely French Bakery, we boarded the ferry to Phuket. The ferry was slightly older and more rickety than the ones we have caught previously. We had barely made it out of the bay when we realised that it was going to be a rough trip. The swell was pretty big and came over half way up the boat, which was fine until the driver had to start turning the engine off to slow down before he hit the bigger waves. Fear spread among the passengers and several of them (including Becca) put theire lifejackets on and prepared for the worse. After a two hour white knuckle ride that people go to theme parks for, we arrived, in one piece in Phuket. For once we had booked a ... read more

We were up bright and early for the boat and were on Ko Phi Phi before lunch. We hadn't learnt our lesson and yet again had failed to book anywhere to stay, so we had a quick march around looking for a room. The cheapest we could find a room that wasn't a dive was 500 Bhat, a bit more than we have been paying, but not too bad, especially considering the place has a swimming pool. Our two days in Ko Phi Phi were spent chilling out, partly because we've had a busy few days and we need to relax a bit and partly because funds are a bit low at the moment! It's hard to believe that the whole area was devastated by the tsunami just a year and a half ago. The main ... read more

It's been a while, indeed it has. Since the last blog, I have moved onto Beijing and have visited the following sites: -Chengde in Hebei Province -Inner Mongolian Grasslands - The Great Wall of China - Various sites around Beijing The time here has been nothing less than phenomenal although I could do without the pollution, the lack of orderly traffic (I swear I almost died 5 times) and the overpopulation and crowds at various sites. I can't believe that I'm here, but I know that I am and I'm very fortunate to have spent the time here with a group of amazing people from all over the world. Kudos to Lana, Sam, Harma, Dirty Harry, Jerrard, Kathi, Linn, Lina, Dennis, Alex, Karen and Kyra for making this time so memorable. I won't forget the good ... read more

I forgot to mention Pai. I read so much about it that it would have been the missing link to this trip. Pai is in a beautiful valley ...surrounded by majestic mountains. Pine trees actually grow there...the air is cool in the mountains..not the valley. It was another windy bus trip...thank God our drivers have all been good. Have heard of stories from other travellers who have thought themselves on a trip to hell. So Pai...sleepy little village where all the hippies go to smoke dope. Many farang have moved there because it's such a laid back little place. So of course we have to find a place to sleep that night...ask a couple of locals and they stare at us and say NO. OK..that didn't help. Finally found a wacked out farang who looked like ... read more
