I was set to jet overseas Monday afternoon. With only 1 game of basketball on the Sunday before I left for 5 weeks overseas, how could anything possibly go wrong?!

It was then that Murphy's Law (and gravity) kicked in to throw everything into chaos! 5 minutes into the second quarter of the basketball game, I rolled my ankle after landing on an opponents foot, and felt something snap. This was not what i needed the day before heading to Thailand for a week of scuba diving.

A week of physio later, I am finally set to take off for what is sure to be an amzing 5 weeks! I leave tonight, and hope that everyone reading enjoys my travel blog!

Scuba diving in Thailand never fails to impress. The variety of sea-life and the spectaular underwater scenery are just amazing. I have been on 10 dives since I arrived 4 days ago, and they have all been stunning. The visibility isn't as great as the last time I was here, but it is still better than a day in the office! Over the past few days I have petted Leopard Sharks, seen stingrays, more fish than there are stars in the sky, and even swam with turtles today. I had a little delay in getting to Thailand, the plane from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was slightly delayed, meaning that I missed my connecting flight to Phuket. No big deal, a night in Kuala Lumpur and some local delicasies and I made the flight the next day. ... read more

Noone can ever, ever accuse the Scottish of not being passionate about their sport! Wandering down to the local pub, Heather took me to a raging party of Scots barracking for the Celtic football club to beat the Hearts. Soccer has never been my favourite sport, but when you are surrounded by a bunch of blokes that are THAT excited to see their club play, you can't help but get into the game. Using some language that would make Billy Connelly blush, these guys cheered and hurled abuse at the tv screen as if their team could really hear them 100 miles away in Edinburgh. Unfortunately Celtic went down in that game, but next time I am in Scotland, I will definately organise to see a soccer match live just to feel the passion of the ... read more

An early morning climb of Arthur's Seat, the large hill and best lookout in Edinburgh meant lots of happy snaps of the amazing city that is Edinbugh. The climb took about 15 minutes, and although my fitness isn't the same as when I left Australia, the stunning view made the trek more than worthwhile. 5 years ago, I studied for a semester at the University of North Carolina (UNC) in the USA. One of the many great friends I made while there, Heather, lives across the other side of Scotland in Glasgow. An hours train ride, and we spent the next umpteen hours discussing the parties, people and fun of studying at UNC. Glaswegians know how to party, so after a few Scottish beers with Heather, her roommates and friends, we headed out to some local ... read more

I am a big fan of the Da Vinci Code book, and so after following the story through London, I had to visit Roslyn Chapel in Scotland. Claimed by the book to be one of the places they hid the holy grail, Roslyn is an amazing chapel that is unequalled in the stone carvings that adorn every part of the church. Filled with oddities and mystique, the church has seen a huge boom in tourism based on the book and subsequent movie. I dont know what the truth behind the holy grail is, but I reckon Roslyn hides a few secrets that only the original creators know. No trip to Scotland during the Edinburgh Festival would be complete without attending the military tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. Our hosts organised us tickets, and the show did not ... read more

It is hard to imagine a more amazing wedding! When 2 function coordinators plan their own wedding, no detail is overlooked. The whole day was meticulously planned, and was the most amazing day. The weather for the last few days has been cold, raining and generally nasty, however we awoke yesterday to a perfect clear sky and warm weather for Kristy and Kelsey's big day. The formalities of the ceremony were in a nice building near the centre of Edinburgh, where the vows were exchanged and the happy couple became officially married. After the service, we were led to the next secret location, the Edinbugh Castle. On a private balcony overlooking the whole of Edinbugh, we were treated to fine champagne, nibblies and haggis, all accompanied by a bagpiper. The view from the top of the ... read more

The human body is an amazing thing, especially when it is preserved without the skin, muscles and organs for an educational exhibit. Bodies...The Exhibition is a really interesting look at the human body - from the inside out! Through preserving human bodies with a special polymer preservation process, you can see all the bits of the machine inside us. I found it interesting to see all the bones, tendons, ligaments and cartilage that I broken, torn or strained over the years of basketball. Now I really understand what the physio has been explaining all these years! I did some more exploring around Leicester Square and Picadilly Circus, including Hamleys Toy Store. While killing time wishing for a second childhood in Hamleys, a guy proposed to his girlfriend over the store's intercom, with a rousing reception from ... read more

While I have heard about day clubs in Sydney before, I have never been to one. For those people that haven't finished partying from the saturday night before, you can head to the Church at about 12pm Sunday, to keep drinking, dancing and playing crazy drinking and dancing games on stage in front of thousands of people. The Church is a massive old theatre, renovated into a club / pub. They play great music, the MC gets people up on stage to play lots of funny games and there is even a hint of more adult entertainment. Any trip to the bar means first paying for a drinks voucher, then moving along to pick up your plastic bag with three cans of drink in it. You can choose your poison, or ask for a random mixture ... read more

It seems that every Aussie, Kiwi and South African that lives in London, congregates at the same pubs to party and meet other Aussie, Kiwis and South Africans. The Walkabout pubs are full of interesting people, and play a lot of great Aussie party music. However it seems a bit crazy to travel to the other end of the earth to hang out with other Aussies! Saturday night we made the mandatory trip to the Walkabout in Shepherds Bush, to catch up with some friends of Sarah and Stacey. We drank some snakebites, danced to AC/DC and Men at Work, and even John Farnham. We had a great time, especially listening to the cover band who did an awesome job. We were heading to the Church, which is a big day club on Sunday, so it ... read more

Friday I caught up with some friends from Wollongong, Rebecca and Ebony, for the most Aussie of traditions, the BBQ. I met Bec after work at the Deutsche Bank in the centre of London's CBD. Our walk to the train station took us past a few very busy pubs, so we stopped in for a quick pint and to catch up on news. There are hundreds of bars in London, and in summer they are packed and spill out onto the streets and laneways once people finish work. Back at Bec and Ebony's place, we fired up the charcoal webber-style bbq, and cooked up a storm. There I also met Ben, Ebony's boyfriend, and Ben, his mate. They were down for the weekend to go sailing on another mate's yacht, down in the south of England. ... read more

Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Mclaren - for a petrol-head like me, this is heaven. The London Motorshow showcased heaps of cool concept cars, and kept me drooling for a few hours. Ohhh to be filthy rich and able to afford toys like these! I wont bore you all with the details of the amazing cars, except for a cool challenge that Ferrari had set up, with 2 replicas of their F1 cars. The challenge was set for people to try and change tyres as quickly as their racing team pit crew could. The line was incredibly long, so I didn't have a try unfortunately. Later we headed to the Slug and Lettuce pub in Fulham Broadway. The pub is about 1 minute down the road from the apartment where I stayed last time I was in ... read more
