It's funny how the wind changes everything. The trees blow differently with the change of the force. A leaf is blown from one end of the street to another. A man's hair is delicately pushed out of place. The chill on her spine makes for goosebumps. This same wind changes her mood from sweet to sour, just like an apple. Sometimes the wind blows so slowly one barely notices it. Other times the change it takes frightens one so badly it feels as if one has been hit by a brick. This wind is beautiful because although we only take time every now and again, if at all, to notice it, it is always there as a representative of life in all forms. With no exceptions for relations. Over a long period of time Cam and ... read more

Today's mission turned out to be pretty much Tom Cruise's worst nightmare - it was a Mission Completely Impossible....When we were in Cambodia, a pair of my trousers got a bit torn in the washing machine and needed to be replaced. As I only have 3 pairs of trousers and one pair of shorts with me, it was a matter of utmost importance. I had been hoping that my recent weightloss might have slimmed me down enough to successfully purchase a pair of half decent trousers to keep me going until we reach New Zealand. Alas it was not to be. We first tried the Big C supermarket en route to the sky train but drew a blank there. Then we headed over to the MBK shopping mall in Siam Square, one of the few places ... read more

Well this is my last few days in Vietnam and the last couple of weeks have been very odd....i have had a credit card stolen and someone tried to mug me...but i survived. I went to a place called Nha Trang it's the Blackpool (sorry Phil) of Vietnam with the same crime rate as Nottingham (sorry to anyone form Nottingham but you can Laugh at Phil form Blackpool..!) Out of a group of nine...three got mugged and 3 camera's were stolen from rooms and bags. There were some good aspects of Nha Trang i hired a sailing boat and sailed in the China Sea which was awesome...! The next stage was a place in the mountains called Dalat...it was so high up it was only 14-16 and i was wearing jeans and jumper for the first ... read more

Still currently residing in my new home Leh but have at least managed to book myself on a 9 day expedition starting on monday. Really looking forward to it...it's not quite the one I had planned but the weather has pretty much washed out the valley to the west of Leh so am heading South East to a place called Tsomoriri Lake. Apparantly there's some quality wildlife to be spotted and herds of Nomadic people on their Yaks. Have really come to enjoy this town. In terms of setting it's a little bit like an Arabic/North African Town or Tibet. But as I've never been to any of those places I like to compare it to the Planet of Tatouine from the Star Wars move. I'm hoping one day to walk into a bar where there ... read more

I feel like I've finally settled in a bit more here in Amravati. Since my last update a lot has happened, so I'll do my best to fill you in. My host family threw me a surprise birthday party here, which was a lot of fun. There were so many girls over at the house! Many of my friends from school and some of my host sister Ketki's friends were there. It was a night filled with cake smearing, presents, amazing food, dancing, and birthday bumps! :) I think there were more than twenty girls who attended. I received way too many gifts and ate a lot of great food. (I wish you all could try it!) It's the monsoon season here in India which brings about a lot of rain. It is so interesting to ... read more

I have not been taking my camera out much with me lately, probably because it is so heavy and I just have not been playing the tourist part much. But since I remembered to bring my camera out with me today, here are some pictures. Otherwise I do not have much to say for today.... read more

Thursday August 10th I woke up pretty late again today even though I went to bed early the day before. I guess I needed the sleep. I had some banana pancakes (I love the stuff) and went to the internet cafe. I had a lot of catching up to do on my blog and the previous day hadn't been enough. Writting these blogs takes time and updating pics can be even worse sometimes. I pretty much spent the whole day in that internet cafe, surrounded by kids playing dance games or Counter-strike. I stopped for lunch where I had some cookies (very nutritious). Also by that point I was getting worried about my visa since it expires on August 14th so I was planning to go to the PSB office to get it extended but I ... read more

Asia » Laos » East » Phonsavan August 12th 2006

Woke up early on the morning of the 12th and had to rush around buying tickets for Phonsavan with only half an hour to spare. This suited me rather well, as I wanted to make a reasonably sharp exit after checking out of the guesthouse due to the damaged fan. Made it away safely and arrived at the bus station with very little time to spare. After loading our bags onto the roof, we were hurredly ushered onto the bus only to find that our seats were taken. After speaking to the driver, just to ask whether it was ok to sit in any seat, he promptly shooed the mother and child out of our seat and made them sit elswhere. At the time I felt quite bad about it, however it was certainly worth it ... read more

Asia » Laos » East » Sam Neua August 12th 2006

This entry was written in Luang Prabang on 19 August because there was no electricity in Sam Neua when I was there. This was a really interesting town. In order to save time I flew from Vientiane on Lao Airlines. The landing was spectacular because it's just a little airstrip in the middle of the mountains and the airplane was really small too - just 17 passengers. It was pretty exciting and much more fun than a normal commercial flight. The town itself is fascinating. Hardly any tourists come here and the ones that do are mainly passing through on their way to Viet Nam. This area is well known for the quality of its weaving. The same silk scarves that I bought for 25 USD up there are selling here in Luang Prabang for up ... read more

Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Mae Hong Son August 12th 2006

Mae Hong Son was a mistake. It was the only place on the whole of my trip that I really just didn't take to. The arrival at the bus station and the subsequent walk through the town wasn't very inspiring but when I checked into a good, cheap guesthouse next to a pleasant looking lake with a good view of Mae Hong Son's main wat, things started looking up. Further exploration of the town revealed that it was all pretty much as dull and dirty as I initially feared, and that the town's inhabitants were really not very friendly. I just didn't feel very welcome. The only real reason for visiting Mae Hong Son is a controversial one - to visit the nearby Karen tribes originally from Bhurma and commonly referred to as the "long neck ... read more
