We got invited to birthday party to a town where the "farrang" does not really go. It was lovely as we got shown part of Thailand and their culture that we would not normally see. They made us feel really like a part of their family. We went fishing, also there was a bird show, only we were looking where our cages where as we were attraction ourselves. We have done some serious fishing Thai style- drain all the watter out of a pond and then look through the mud for the fish. :o) As I Romi did not really wanted to go back to Krabi and then back down south again I have stayed with Bob and went to Phathalung and I Reni went back the day after to Krabi. We have joined each other ... read more

13 - 15th March We got a bus early in the morning on the 13th to take us to Trang and then onto Hat Yai. To get off of Lanta by car you have to go on the car ferry. With that and the other crowds it can take a long time. We were picked up at 7.30am and by the time the van was full and we were on our way it was 8.20. Onto the first car ferry and across onto Lanta Nok the northern Island then we queued for ages to get onto the next car ferry over to the mainland. We finally arrived in Trang at just after 12pm. The next van we had to get was from Trang to Hat Yai, After getting that and finally on our way we got ... read more

Hi Guys Well I've left Koh Phangan after an emotional farewell with the pals I made there. We had a meal on our last night. 14 of us and the meal came to less that 70 pounds! Bargain! I have Barracuda steak - delicious! I have now left the boys and gone solo (it was for the best!). I'm now in a small town near the malaysian border called Hat Yai. It tool me a boat ride, bus ride, 3 motorbike rides and a 6 hours minibus ride to get here. Back is a tad sore (if you're the praying type please pray away that the pain subsides). I'm off on an 8 hour journey to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow (on a luxury coach - bliss!) Going to catch up on some much needed sleep tonight. Only ... read more

short but sweet: diving into the local rock scene & diving into crystal clear blue water A business trip to delhi just before the easter holidays, enables me to make a short break in thailand. Horse the band, one of my favorite bands would play in bangkok at a hc festival exactly after my job in delhi. So I decide to stay some days in bangkok to see the show and to do some diving & chilling on my favourite island Koh Lanta. the trip from delhi to bangkok was pretty heavy, last two days in delhi I had the delhi belly, due to construction work at the airport I had to be there even 4 hours (!) before departure. standing in a cue for 2 hours on your own (=you can't leave the line) isn't ... read more

Forwarning: I woke up feeling less than clever, and also unmotivated to post this blog, but I owe everything to you, the people, so here I am. It's been a while since I've posted, so this blog may be a blur and completely uninteresting as my memory has started to wane from the past week. Or, it may be mindblowing, nobody knows. I guess you'll know at the end. Ohhh. Suspense. Ko Phangan & The Full Moon Party Well, after taking a separate bus than Dan and Paul from the Cambodia-Thai border, I successfully navigated back to Lily's house in Bangkok. It was a great personal victory for myself and humanity as a whole. I rode the sky train and took the subway (my first time on a subway) until finally ending up somewhere in Thai ... read more

Thailand......we hold out a lot of hopes for Thailand as it is generally considered by most to be a backpackers' mecca, gorgeous beaches, friendly people, loads of culture and great food. Well, correct but not on all accounts. We left the sanctuary of the Red Palm in Kuala Lumpur (a teary farewell) and headed on a night train to Hat Yai (the first town over the border) 14 hours later it was morning in Hat Yai and we decided to go check out Songkla on the east coast, an hour on public bus to get to. We stayed for 2 or 3 nights at the ABC guesthouse with our own room and a lovely couple of ladies serving up delicious, reduced price food for us. We rented a motorbike (a semi-automatic) and went to the Zoo ... read more

We arrived in Hat Yai from koh Lanta to stay one night before we embarked to the Malaysian border. It was midday, the bus had dropped us at the station we were hot, tired and carrying our heavy back packs (18.5kg), and we needed to search for a place to stay. We looked at another budget guesthouse and I moaned saying to James I need a little luxury. We found a gorgeous hotel, 30 pounds for the one night with breakfast, and I just had everything that I have slightly missed for the past two months, a hairdryer, air con, large comfy bed and huge clean fresh room, with the thing I have sorely missed the most a BATH with HOT water. I spent a good hour in that bathroom it was much needed. I ... read more

The day began on the train and before long we arrived at the Malaysia / Thailand border. This crossing was another straightforward one although we did take a moment to check that noone had stuffed anything into our bags that could have seen us involuntarily checking-in to the ‘Bangkok Hilton’. Once we got to Hat Yai we just had to find a bus to a town called Surat Thani which was 7 hours away. After an hour or so we were heading north on a bus with a mysterious cargo of dozens of large cardboard boxes taking up literally half the bus, and dreaming of a shower. We reached Surat Thani just after dark and walked until we found the pier with a boat to an island called Ko Tao. We bought tickets for this ... read more

Eventually got back to Kuala Besut from the Perhentians after the long wait and got a taxi from there to Kota Bharu where we decided to rest for the night. Found a class guest house, it was actually a private home with an old couple living there and cost us just 7 euro for the room for the night. En suite bathroom and balcony too. the business. (edel didnt likeit quite as much as i did however...) Not a lot to see in Kota Bharu so headed straight to the Thai border the next morn on our way to Hat Yai. Hat Yai is more like a typical Thai town. Not so many tourists and prices much lower so that suited us fine. Found a nice little place to stay just beside Chinatown and paid ... read more

We arrived in Krabi a few days before Christmas with nowhere to stay but fortunately after a bit of searching we found somewhere half decent and cheap too. Krabi itself isn't up to much, just a scabby town but a 20 minute taxi ride away is a decent beach beside a touristy strip in Ao Nang as well as numerous stunning islands around. So instead of trying to find anywhere to stay on Phi Phi (the main island) which I've heard very mixed reviews about anyway we thought we'd just base ourselves in Krabi and do day trips out to the islands. The first day we took a trip out on a speed boat to Phi Phi Lei, where the Beach was filmed as well as several other islands where we snorkelled, swam in the sea ... read more
