I'm thinking of leaving Bangkok tomorrow and making my way to a little Beach! With directions from many travellers, i have dicided to first head to Koh Phang yan. There i am going to try and find a little quite beach to relax, do some yoga and maybe even start each day with a morning jog! During my stay in Bangkok i've spoken to a few people from diffrent walks of life. Both last night and the previous i spent with an Italian man, who stops over here on the way to China where he lives. (He can get a longer visa here.) In a very Italian way he has entertanied me with storys of his life around the world. On Tuesday after leaving Kao San road to come home we dicied to have aone last ... read more

A serious tale of woe Okay, sorry for the delay in blogging to you all, my dear and loyal audience. Yes, you read correctly, because of the stats feature on this website I know people are reading this - no doubt mostly from strangers looking to offer me internet porn and Viagra. Others from back home eager to hear what I’ve been up to on my fancy sojourn around South East Asia. Again, apologies for the lack of any update after the full-on-ness of Myanmar, I shall outline the reasons forthwith, hold your breath as it is a demonstration of how badly things can go wrong when backpacking. (deep inhaling of breath) When I got back to Bangkok after Myanmar, I was in a strange mood; I had to get stuff done namely get my poor ... read more

Hello, Sorry it's been a long time for our first entry but facebook and e-mails have taken most of our attenetion when we get time on the internet. After a long but enjoyable flight (we had interactive screens with games, films and camera views out of the plane) we finally landed at the new Bangkok airport at around 6am. The first thing that hit us wasn't the intense heat but a crowd of taxi drivers ravenous for business. We were going to get the airport bus into the city centre but they would not allow us to take the bikes on it so we were forced to spend our hard earned cash on a taxi (900 baht!). After waiting around 20 mins for the taxt driver to get his 'big' car from 'round the corner' his ... read more

Well it happened.....my worst nightmare came true.....a snake in my room. We have been at Koh Ang Thong for the past 4 days and on the first day we had mice in our room. The next day my roommate and I were sitting on the porch with our door open when I looked over and saw a snake above the bed on the wall. Let's just say I was not looking forward to spending another 2 nights there, especially when there's only power for 4 hours from 6:00pm-10:00pm. Every noise I heard I was convinced was a snake. The only thing that made us feel better is we figured the snakes would eat the mice so we only had to worry about one creature at a time in our room. We also decided on a strategy ... read more

Well it's around 10:00pm here and I'm finally rolling out of bed. The full moon party was last night and I'm having a rough day recovering from the lack of sleep and the buckets of Sang Som. We had a big bbq and spent a couple hours covering ourselves in body paint before boating over to Haad Rin at midnight for the big party. It was insane to see the thousands and thousands of people on the beach dancing to rave music. We only lasted till shortly after sunrise, but I'm pretty sure the party goes on until at least noon. I've been given the names 'Grandma' and 'Elder' since I'm one of the oldest on the trip....so I had to make sure I was out as long as the others or I'd never here the ... read more

Hi guys Just wanted to gauage poeple's opinions on whether to stay on Samui of Phangan for the full moon party? Also, can people recommend any accomodation on either island? Lively, clean, not to cheap and shabby. Don't mind spending a bit on staying there. Must be easy to get to the party.. Was thinkin of some sort of beach side accomodation, with a pool, nice view etc. Cheers everyone and look forward to the replies.. mani... read more

hello, thanks for all the updates. I'm currently in Ko pan yang probably spelt wrong one day before the full moon party. After the 'Bangkok experience' of which I thought was probably the least enjoyable place I have visited. I reckon I only met two locals who were honest and did not have money on the brain, and they were students at the local university. Very hectic, confusing lce which felt like it was inbetween the realms of reality, surreality, fictiona and chaos. NOT A BIG FAN. But learnt alot. 20 hours larter I arrived on Ko pan yang, 12 hour bus, 4 hour boat and loads of waiting time, they do not do ANYTHING fast here (the baggage handlers lost one of my shoes. grr). They are even worse than the part timers. Believe it ... read more

I'm into my third day on the beach, and find that I'm settling into island life really well. We took the night train from Bangkok, then hopped a ferry to Koh Phangan which is absolutely beautiful. The internet is a little slow here so I can't upload pics but I don't think anyone would want to see it anyway because you'd be incredibly jealous. We are staying on a beach called Haad Yuan, which is a kind of a secluded paradise. We each have our own little bungalows just off the beach, and we've strung up about 4 hammocks so far on my porch and are probably going to spend the night in them for the first time tonight. We're about a 10 minute boat taxi ride from Haad Rin which is the beach were the ... read more
