Geneva State ParkOn the road just before 7am this morning. Toll price on the Ohio turnpike was $16.50 due to the height of the vehicle which was more than we expected.
We drove through Cleveland and were back in the open road before 8am.
Detour off the highway through the town of Geneva where we refilled with fuel at $3.23 per gallon and drove 7 miles through the town to Geneva State Park - beaches, camping, bike trails and boat mariner right on Lake Erie. Also saw a groundhog having something to eat by the lake.
Very peaceful by the lake and it was another beautiful, perfect day. It is off season now but I'm sure this is a busy place for families during the summer. Geneva also has a number of Wineries in the local area - we drove past a few but it was too early in the day for any to be open.
Crossed into Pennsylvania and decided to pick up essentials for while we are in Canada. That would be my number 1 tip for a trip into Canada - buy your Food, alcohol, bottled water, clothing and anything else you may need before going into
The Mariner at the ParkCanada. Just because you are in North America don't expect the prices to be similar across the countries. Even Canadians that live close enough to the USA border will shop down here to save money!
After lunch we crossed into New York and straight onto a toll road -cost $5.60 to our turnoff in Buffalo. We are staying the night in a KAO campground at Grand Island just 5 miles from Niagara Falls. To get o Grand Island you need to pay another toll - $1 for cars $2 for an RV. Once we got our camp space $30 for the night we headed to the Niagara Falls State Park. As it is not peak season we got a free park - bonus because carparking in peak season can set you back whatever the car park operators want to charge!
Walked along to prospect point and joined numerous others to get a few good shots of all the falls. We have visited the falls before and done all the touristy activities - cave of the winds, maid of the mist, the aquarium and the sky wheel 2 years ago - we came back to try and capture better
By the beachphotographs. Plus it worked in well as a stop over before going to Toronto.
Next we ventured off the international bridge to photograph the falls at night from the Canadian side. There is no competition - the Canadian side wins hands down when it comes the best view.
We decided to walk over which was a good decision - it is a nightmare trying to get through customs in the car. The walk was pleasant - nice and flat - not too cold either! It was also much quieter on the Canadian side as well. Remember to keep some change on you as you have to pay 50 cents to re-enter the USA.
3,160 tons of water flow over the falls every second and 4 of the 5 Great Lakes Drain into the Niagara River (Superior, Michigan, Huron and Erie) before emptying into Lake Ontario. These 5 Great Lakes make up almost 1/5 of the world's fresh water supply.
I don't think it would matter how many times you see Niagara Falls - you will always be mesmerised by the sheer size and beauty of these falls. Any wonder they are one of the natural wonders
Groundhog of the world.
Tomorrow morning we will leave Niagara and arrive in Toronto for some serious sight seeing.
