Karakoram Highway and China?

If I take the KKH from Pakistan, do I have to go into China? Can I stay in Pakistan and still see a lot of what there is to see and do what there is to do? My problem is that I don't want to spend $130 on a Chinese visa.

If you don't wanto to visit to China, so why not only for North Pakistan on famous Karakorum Highway, as most of foreign tourists visiting to North Pakistan they do drive up to Khunjerab Pass from Islamabad and return back to Islamabad.

Have a marvelous time and enjoy the scnarios,
