Next month, i am going to china, and will spend two days in Yun'nan provinve, a little bit short a time,so, I can only choose one between Li'Jiang and Da'Li. Any suggestions? BTW, is there any phone rental agencies availble in China?I want to rent one.
Thanks
Reply to this i suggest you also go to guilin, china as well, which is just about one hour flight from Da'Li, its scenery is matchless, you can log on our website to have a look, we can also arrange around china tour.
Reply to this Go to Li'Jiang! Forget Da'Li. I do think Da'Li is just the copy of Li'Jiang. Li'Jiang is a absolute chinese town that has escaped the bulldozers, with watermeanders throughout the whole town. Also, you can buy incredible arts and crafts in shops there, all very odd and interesting. As for the phone rent, i would suggest you one agency I once used,www.tourfone.com, just order on line, and you will get the phone in your hotel, also the price is not as high as US phone rental companies. So, not bad!
Reply to this Sure Lijiang is far more better than Dali.
the most attractive points in Lijiang"
Lijiang Ols Town,
Lijiang Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
Tiger Leaping Gorge
Naxi Orchestral and dance
Black Dragon Pool
Reply to this I would agree that Lijiang is the better preserved town. It is a World Heritage site, but I was also very impressed with Dali. If you must choose one, I guess it would have to be Lijiang, but I liked the quietness of Dali also. Yunnan Province is just beautiful! Yes, Guilin is wonderful also. If you end up in Lijiang, do stay mostly in the Old Town. It is the most charming part. Visit the places listed above my post. Everything is easily walkable and you can see it all in the two days. Enjoy!
Reply to this Lijiang is awesome. Dali is good but compared to Lijiang no where near as good. Lijiang is in the World Heritage site and now there is a new tax for everyone who stays there, very annoying. Some hostels charge and some don't.
P.s. check ahead if the Black Dragon Pool actually has water in it. Otherwise it is really dissapointing.
Reply to this Black Dragon Pool might not have water in it? Why? We are planning on going back soon? Black Dragon Pool os awesome with the view of the mountain in the background! The view from the highest point in the Old City is also.
Reply to this my friends went and said there was no water in it because it had dried up, so they advised us not to go because it was a big dissapointment but this was in the month of july, so there might be water in it now come october.
Reply to this I really enjoyed both Dali and Lijiang. I thought Dali was quite charming:

Reply to this I have been to both of them. In my oppinion, Lijiang is more popular than Dali.Undoubtedly,Nov. is really the best season in the whole year to visit Lijiang. You would see the top of Yulong snow-mountain when you stand in the city, blue sky, white snow mountain, gorgeous! Dali has a long history, and the scenery is good either. Cangshan, Erhai, Three Towers in Chongsheng Trmple are the famous scenic spots. Dali and Lijiang both have the same characteristics, they all have an ancient town in the city, you would relax yourself and buy some souvenirs and special products there. But the ancient town in Lijiang is larger and more popular than Dali, more and more foreigners like there.
So, that is my experience, I'm sorry about saying which is the best place to visit, because I like both!

Reply to this Ok, Lijiang is famous for the Naxi ethnic culture and Lijiang Old Town. Lijiang Old Town is best reserved by the goverment, you can enjoy Naxi people life in the old town, but in Dali, the Dali Old Town is not worthy to visit. Some torist skip Dali and Kunming, and they take much time in Lijiang and Shangri La, Tiger Leaping Gorge.
Reply to this We liked both. The most memorable thing we did was go cormorant fishing in Dali. We thought it might be a scam for tourists, but it turned out to be wonderful! They were just a family that was making a little money by taking people out. We loved Lijiang also. We tried to find the quieter streets and less traveled areas in both.
Reply to this Is it easy to get on a tour of Tiger Leaping Gorge from Lijiang? Or is it well marked enough and quite touristy so it would be easy to hike alone?
Reply to this I personally prefer the environmentally-friendly area, rather than Dali or Kunming
Reply to this There is now comparison between LiJiang and Dali. LiJiang is a giant shopping mall, which exists solely for the benefit of tourism, and is completely devoid of all character. Dali, in contrast, is a "real" town, with world-class outdoor activities. You can hike the cangshan mountains, kayak in erhai lake, and now
rock climb with a club that just set up in dali.
