i spent 1 year in Se Asia last year. Totally depends on how much you drink

you could get by on 1000 baht ($30) per day or less, depends on what your doing, how much your drinking....blah blah blah Reply to this

Hello Travel r 😊

I went to Thailand with my daugher for a month last June and a month the previous November. Each time we spent 500 Euros between us for the month.

What u spend will depend on what u want to do. Tours can make Thailand more expensive. I personally dislike tours so that is why my trips were so inexpensive.

travel r,

I agree with Laur4. That's about the average. I used to live in Thailand 6 months at a time. I personally would spend around $1500 U.S. a month and that was for everything (rent, lights, water, cable, food and etc.) and I went out EVERY NIGHT. If you just want hang out and just relax and just go out 2 or 3 nights a week. From my experience you could cut that in half.

how does it work with accomodation? how do u look for? is there a directory or better use the LP?
is it expensive to rent a hut on the beach? luckily I drink very little, that makes it already cheaper
what is the difference between north/south beaches? is the north more laid back? I'm thinking to ck Kho Samui, somebody also suggested the Adaman islands, does anybody know anything about?

thnx again Reply to this

U can use the Lonely Planet or just show up and ask people if they know of a guesthouse charging what u are willing to pay.
Budget places cant be prebooked but u can book some midrange places on the internet.
For example u could use www.khaosanroad.com to book someplace on the Khao San road in Bangkok.
I never prebook anything. There is no need. Even during the tourist season I had no trouble getting places to stay.

On Ko Samui the quiet beaches would be at Bo Phut and Mae Lam. The ones teeming with tourists would be Hat Chaweng and Hat Lamai.

The Andaman Islands are in India. Are u planning to go there too?

?pomlaksowthai really? u think with $1000 is possible to have decent accomodation and food? I'm talking average, 3 meals a day maybe to go out few times but not like a party animal, moderate stuff, buy couple of jeans and that's it.. but if at some point I want to be away from the tourist crowds where should I go? was thinking to go to a small fishing village and nagotiate it there with the locals or is better to stay in places with foreigners? is this a good thing to do in Thailand? do u have to bargain hard? Andaman, someone suggested is not so expensive to fly there from Thailand but on the other hand I'm sure Thailand has also similar places. when in BKK if u want to book a flight, a boat u go to Khao San?
Mell I have another q I'm going first to India for a long stay, where should I get the visa for Thailand? in India or here and have it validated upon entry? Reply to this

If u are only going to Thailand for 30 days u may not need to get a visa. U will get a free of charge 30 days visa on arrival in Thailand if u are from one of the countries eligible for this which most Western countries are.

For going to Koh Samui there is no need to prebook the boat. When u get to Surat Thani by bus or Train there will be plenty of agents there to sell u a boat ticket and take u to the pier. The boats go several times per day. Of course u can also fly directly to Koh Samui. Costs more but is not expensive. U can certainly buy the flight tickets from the agents on Khao San Road or anywhere in Bangkok,
I dont actually know how expensive it is to fly to Andaman from Thailand.

The following island in Thailand has been recommended to me by a traveller in Thailand as one which does not get much tourism. I havent tried it yet so if u do let me know what it is liike. http://www.hornbillhut.com/

Check this link to find out if u can get a visa on arrival(or visa exemption as they call it in this link) for Thailand.

If u can it may be worth going to Thailand before India. Travel agents in Bangkok can sell u a reasonably priced ticket to India and get your Indian visa for u too. U just have to leave your passport with them for around a week.

travel r,

I was staying in Pattaya. My rent was, 4500B about $112 US at that time, in a gated apartment complex with a few stores, swimming pool, ect. Water bill was around $5. Power bill around $20 or $25 a month. A lot of hotels will have monthly rates. The ones I've found were around 10,000B per month. Food, I never spent more then $6 and I ate 3 times a day ( between 45B & 75B per meal). If you want to go eat somewhere really nice you could spend lot more. As far as getting away from the from the tourist. You should be able to go to the thai places and not have any problems. I've been to lot Thai bars and been the only farang in the place and nobody even looked twice at me. A good place to go to get your feet wet would be to go to any Karaoke bar. They are usually full of Thai's. Also, talk to the expats. They'll help you out alot. As far as bargianing. I don't know to much about that. I never had to bargian alot. I was usually with other Thai's and they knew how much everything costs. but usually, everything will be almost twice as much for you, if you don't know how much it really cost.
