Can anyone specifically come-up with a step-by-step guide on how to get to Phonsavan (Plain of jars) from Hanoi?
Example:
1. Take tuktuk to Bus Station in Place N.
2. Take a Bus from Place N to Place O.
3. ETC ETC
Reply to this Depends how you want to get there really and where you want to stop on the way. ~We did it the other way round, and actually flew from Vientiane to Hanoi but people do that by bus I think (ie you'd be going Hanoi to Vientiane.) From Vientiane you can get a bus to Vang Vieng if you want to stop off there (where people go tubing, which is fun, v touristy town though), and from Vang Vieng another bus will take you to Phonsovan.
Can't remember the specific places you catch the buses from, the bus dropped us at the side of a road in Vientiane from Vang vieng because they had loads of roadworks going on at the time and there were diversions around the city. Vang Vieng to Phonsovan, there's just one bus stand along the main road which runs parallel to the main shopping/cafe street there - Vang Vieng's small so wherever you are it should be walkable but you can catch a tuk tuk from most places if you wanted. Phonsovan has a main bus station, a minivan or tuk tuk will take you from there to a guest house.
Reply to this debtravel, just running this past you, thinking of flying from ho chi min to hanoi, train sapa, guess i would have to go back to hanoi to get flight to vietiane/luang prabang/vang vieng crossing into cambodia SR PP not sure of flight or overland then back into vietnam for flight to sydney what do you think shorty 183
