16 years ago, March 14th 2008 No: 1 Msg: #29876
Hi!

I'm currently in australia and will shortly be heading to Singapore (mid april-ish). We will be leaving from Bankok in mid may however me and my mate have never been to asia before and havent really planned anything yet! So I\'m just wanting some advice really of how to go about it (like transport, places, time of stays etc).

Any help would be greatly appreciated so that we at least have a clue about what to do!

Thanks

Hello Lesley 😊

I suggest u buy the Lonely Plant Guide for SE Asia. It gives information about accomodation, suggested itineries, transport, money, safety......
It is available in most bookshops around the world for around 30 Euros.

Hey Lesley,

I just returned home from my first trip to SE Asia, and would recommend flying from Sing to BKK or Krabi via one of the safe, reputable budget airlines such as Air Asia or Tiger Airways. Krabi is a great place to begin exploring some of the amazing islands in the Andaman Sea, and you can easily jump over to the Gulf side and continue on by plane or bus afterwards. I highly recommend bus travel in Thailand (first class a/c locals buses (not tourist buses) are very inexpensive). Guidebooks are good for general info, but you'll really get a sense of what you want to see once you begin meeting other travelers & hearing about their experiences. Enjoy!

If you want a good stop-along-the-way trip. These are the cities/towns to go to. Below is a short itinery that (as a local) i'd recommend:

Singapore (4 nights):
Plenty of backpackers hostels to stay in for (approx SGD80-100).

Singapore - Johor Bahru, Malaysia:
Go by coach/public transport across the causeway.
Stay in Johor Bahru for 2 nights - visit the town and go to duty-free zone for cheap beers

Johor Bahru - Malacca:
Go by coach/bus (abt MYR15/AUD5 only)
Stay in Malacca for 2 nights - loads of local food and historical places to visit

Malacca - Kuala Lumpur:
Go by coach
Stay in Kuala Lumpur for 3 nights

Kuala Lumpur - Terengganu:
Get a island travel package to visit one of Malaysia's islands in the east coast.
Go via flight.
Abt MYR800 for flight and accomodation per pax 3d2n
Fly back to Kuala Lumpur.
Can opt to stay in Terengganu for a night.

Kuala Lumpur - Bangkok:
Budget airline www.airasia.com
Shop and walk. too many things to see there

------------

Ok. I'm not from thailand. So i won't be able to let you know more than that.

But if you need any help for Singapore/Malaysia, I'll be glad to do so for u. email me at

Cheers.
