I've also experimented with sharing my blogs on facebook. Not surprisingly, the blogs that I shared received a quick boost in views, but over the long term it has little effect.

With regards to the blog titles, my two most viewed entries have the words "Paradise" and "Rolling Stone" in titles. Reply to this

Vila Olimpica - Barcelona's urban regeneration at its best, plus the Boqueria Market and the night-life of Raval

I was very disappointed with the number of hits for this blog. I have now changed the title to include the word "Barcelona" and suddenly the hits are picking up!!

Is that something we have to consider? Using the place name as well as a catchy title. Reply to this

Hi Russ,

In our 5 years of blogging we can't determine with any accuracy why some blogs get more attention than others.

Some of our favorite blogs or blogs we felt were well written didn't receive much attention.

We've often been told that the title and lead photos can make a big difference. We've made an effort to select attention grabbing photos for our first four photos. We are not that creative with blog titles so we cannot confirm that the title makes much difference.

With the world of internet I assume that if someone is googling the word Barcelona your blog has a better chance of coming up. There are some other forum threads discussing this. We've been told that using words like "sex" grabs more attention.

We now post a link to our blog on our facebook account and in the beginning it increased hits but not so much recently. However, a couple of our friends have shared our blogs on their facebook page and we have noticed an increase when that happens.

Happy blogging.

Oh this explains why my blog entitled "Athens - Stray Cats and Tortoise Sex" has got double the views of most of my other blogs... although why people google tortoise sex is beyond me, but then, I was the one stood there watching for a longer amount of time than is necessary! Reply to this

Thanks for the tips on photos.

I'm curious to know if anyone works similarly to me regarding adding photos and if it ruins chances of getting clicks.

Initially I started Travelblogging for myself and hubby. After each trip, I've saved the blogs and photos and had them printed up into books using one of the various online photo album printers, then make my family read them :-)

So now when I blog, some friends and family do follow me as I publish, so if I do have access to wi-fi, I like to publish asap. But this means I can't add proper photos as I shoot in raw and spend a fair bit of time going through the thousands of photos and editing them when I get home. But the blogs would look bland without images, so I take photos on my iphone as temporary measures, then then replace them at a later date. (Two of my trips are still waiting for the replacements :-( )

So I'm wondering if by adding the proper photos weeks or even months after the initial blog is publish, have I missed the boat in getting them seen? Or does it not really matter? Reply to this
