Do you need to get a permit to visit the Andaman Islands ?

Hello all, We are one the cusp of a RTW tour. We intend to fly from Syndey Aus to Chennai in March and was wondering if anyone has visited the Andaman Islands and had to secure a permit on top of a Visa to visit the Islands. If so how long did it take and where did you get it ?

Thanks for any help you can provide. Also as a RTW traveller what advice do you have for attaining visas in all the different countries you would visit during the year ?

thanks again ! Reply to this

Permits, when required, are sold on the island and can be purchased upon entry. Most people arrive by boat or by swimming from their boats (us locals). Costs 400 baht per person last ime we were there (in May 2007). Reply to this

LOA depending on where you intend to go you can normally obtain visas from neighbouring countrys, for example you can get you Cambodia and Vietnam visas while in Thailand.
