If you can make your own way around a place or a country then why not?............afterall im not made of money and i do not want to pay some one £1,000 to show me something i can see for myself and also the sense of achievement at hiking your way around some famous world heritage site or national park is a good feeling.

I always tend to feel that some tours are overpriced for what they are and then tend to herd you and its off the bus on the bus all the time, id rather set my own schedule.

Thats my opinion, however others may differ?

Because you want to see things at your own leisure.. rather than have a tour guide that hurds the group around like sheep! Last year in Phuket we had a tour guide who was really pushy and abrupt and actually kept grabbing me to hurry me to the site/bus/boat etc!

It made me very uncomfortable. I'll never do an organised tour again!

Tours are also way over priced for what you get.

Hello Bobismile 😊

I never go on tours.
Not only are they often more expensive then independent travel, but they increase the chances of me getting trapped in the tourist bubble.
Also I like my space, and if I was on a tour maybe I would have to spend too much time with the same people instead of doing things alone or meeting more people.
Also I have my own agenda when travelling and can better provide myself with the travel experience I want, than a tour can.

well, i tend to agree but there is always another side! travelled in both ways, when i was 18 i done a 6 week thing in Africa and loved it and to this day not had as much fun but it was all about the group, the people and it was quite laid back not rushed just great! then due to time done another one in 06 in south africa - hated it! it was rushed, people were..... well said i would never do one again.

Todate most i have done independent and love that too - more! but again in Oz we done a 5 day thing to the center and again loved it ????
so i think from my experience it all comes down to the people and what you expect. S.E asia is easy and mainley safe but other places may be better to do a tour ie china ? not bin but i hear a tour is often the way to go due to communication. T his is a discussion we could go on and on about and in truth i dont know!? over priced, often rushed and mostly crap but get with a good group or have limited time, experience etc can be great.
