hi there mate, i ahve had 2 in bangkok, actuall 4
i had 2 done at a temple, and they were fine and very cheap,
but just tatooing at my tattooist (he is very good clean and quite famous) is 1000-150 baht per hour depending on the piece, i had 7 hours on my leg for 7000 baht very very good work, and my chest was around 2 hours only 1300 baht, his name was Ying Youngterk, there is also Jimmy Wong who is very famous, he tattooed alot of fmous people, he is more expensive though, not sure by how much, but a little.
any more info mate just email,
thanks

In Bangkok you could try Khoa San Road. There must be over 10 places!!

I had mine done from Eak's tattoo who has multiple stores on KSR itself.

Hi,

I have been to bangkok several times and have got tattooed several times whilst on my travels. As an avid tattoo collector i have done hours and hours of research on the best places to get tattooed in bangkok. My research led me to a place called Max tattoo on Khao san road. I heard a lot about it on various blogs and travel sites so I decided to get some work done there. I had corresponded with Max via email before I got there just bouncing ideas around about placement, size and design. He was extremely helpful and willing to do whatever it took to get it right. I ended up deciding on a japanese phoenix half sleeve in black and grey. When I got there I was greated to a very well appointed, air conditioned and sterile shop. once we got through the technicalities his most senior tattooist started to freehand the design straight on me which took about 45 mins. once the drawing was done I was taken to a second location as is common in thailand where the artist 'OT' set up his station and immediatly began working. His work was meticulous and he his line work was unbelievable. He didnt speak much english (max on the other hand spoke very good english and was able to relay my ideas to OT in Thai) however what he lacked in english he definetly made up for in skill. The tattoo took two days 6.5 to 7 hrs per day which was painful i must admit but the work was amazing and certainly worth the pain. I can't recommend his studio highly enough I know its hard to trust people on blogs some times but just take a look at his work it speaks for itself and the more freedom you give him the better the tattoo.

Nice
I got one in samet for 5000 in december, it took about 3.5 hours, but I've heard alot of good things about Max Tattoo and wonder how much one of the famous tattoists charge. Is it likely to be 2000 baht per hour or more I wonder. Reply to this

Well like I said my tattoo took two days of around 7 hrs per day (14 in total) and he charged me 35,000thb which prob seems expensive but given that the same tattoo would have cost me a couple of thousand here in Australia I was willing to pay the extra and be completely satisfied with his work. I have had tatoos done here since then and all the tattoo artists have commented on how good the work is, even tho a lot of them have initial reservations when you tell them you got it in thailand. All in all it is worth the money as you are going to have it for a life time and sure you can save money and get it at one of the other many tattoo studios in Thailand but for me I am happy to pay for good work. If you have any questions or would like any photos dont hesitate to PM me and I can send you some. Reply to this

On Phuket island ive had work done by Mitt and Wat at Patong Tattoo Bar nice clean shop happy with the work - bumped into a guy named Jack at NaiYang and has a beach shack tattoo parlour who "runs the police" has a dope leaf tattoo'd on his throat...wouldnt let Jack tattoo a mortal enemy the guy is constantly off his head on crystal meth. Wat did a large iguana on my shoulder a couple of years ago very happy with quality of work no color fading and his brother Mit has tattoo'd my partner both arms half sleeves and lightning bolts and (backwards) southern cross on his neck. Have had tatts done in Perth by tattooists ive been using for 25 years who were suprised at the quality of the work done at Patong tattoo by Mitt and Wat. Reply to this

Yep Oolzy that would be Mitt and Wat's place - they have built a bar in the middle of the arcade of shops - Patong Tatoo Bar - saw them a couple of weeks ago things are very very quiet. Reply to this

I just had a some fresh bamboo ink near Khao San in Bangkok. It was on one of the side streest (wish I could remember what it was called). if you can find Khao San Center (a massive pub that looks like it should be called the Irish pub, in the center of Khao San, head down the ally beside it, hang a right and walk past new joe guesthouse, bit further down there will be a tattoo parlour thats all black and white inside, the artist there was amazing, they have a display outside with different works they've done. Very clean and hygenic and amazing artist!!

of course there are tons of tattoo parlous around Bangkok and Thailand. The one thing I look for is the art work they've done. I've noticed a lot of places have magazine or pictures printed off the internet that aren't their own work, and very few pictures of what they have actually done. These places scare me because you never know what your going to get (a big blob instead of some amazing artwork). and check the conditions of the tattoo parlour before getting it done!!! Oh Heck... Really wish I hadn't come across this thread....

I'm in Thailand next month and I have a ghastly tribal on my upper arm that really needs some attention (cover-up).

Spent a whole year of every month (sometimes every two weeks) going to a studio in London getting a full sleeve done which is soooo amazing it makes the rubbish on my other arm look even worse. I was glad when it was all over (anyone who's had their elbow tattoo'd will understand), but now I'm feeling thay familiar itch to get more ink.

Think I may have to email this Max tattoo and see if they have any suggestions! 😊 Reply to this

I went and saw Max and was super impressed by his setup so wouldn't hesitate to get it done there, but sadly due to its size and blackness (if that's even a word), the horror adorning my upper right arm can't be covered well unless I have a couple of laser sessions to fade it out. I was just grateful for his honesty, as I'm sure a few places I could've gone to would of given it a try and just made a bigger mess...

I probably will get it lasered when I can be bothered but that won't happen anytime soon.... 😉

I'm more thinking of just getting loads of really good tattoos up the arm, hoping the rubbish one will get lost in the background. Only I'll do it slowly this time, as it was just too much money and time to have every piece of skin from cuff to neck covered in one hit! My plan for the sleeve is a travel scrapbook of where we've been/experienced, with a slant towards religious iconography. I'm not religious at all, but it does create some amazing art and architecture...
