Woman travelling alone to Vietnam - How to take care of valuables

Do I carry my passport & credit cards with me at ALL times?

Hello all!

I'll be setting off for Vietnam in a couple of weeks, and I have one specific question about how people carry the most important valuables around: passport, credit cards and cash. Do you carry it all with you at all times? Where? How?

I backpacked for 8 months some years ago, and I set off with a hidden pouch more or less like this:

Hidden Wallet

It was very uncomfortable: beacuse of the size of the passport, it was uncomfortable to sit down, and it made my belly bulky and sweaty... I stopped using it in less than 1 week. I don't remember wery well where we carried the passport after that, mostly my husband carried it somwhere... But I'm on my own now! I'd like to hear ideas and recomendations from fellow travelers.

Also: Did you bring one or 2 credit cards? if 2, did you carry both together?

Of course, any advice for a solo woman traveller would be appreciated. I think I have the basics covered: Don't walk alone at night/in solitary places; don't wear clothes too tight/sexy/revealing; Go with your instinct: If in doubt, try to get out as soon as possible; be careful with drinks from strangers... More or less the same as in the city where I live (except for the sexy clothing!). Somebody cares to add something?

Thanks! Reply to this

I find a place on my bag and hide 1 card and $100 the best place is in the webbing of the bag
I put on my person 1 card and $100 as small as I can get it
allways keep at least $10 in your pocket and give it up if they are going to rob you
if you have a small bag hide a card and $100

Keep you head up and on a swivel if you are walking at night
watch your bags, all most all ripoffs happen when they see a opertunity.
bring a cable and lock and if you have to walk away for even 20sec lock your stuff to something very handy in bus and train stations
In you room lock your bag to something big that is hard to drag

write down all of your credit cards with the phione numbers
take a picture of your passport and SS#
take the credit card info and your passport and SS# info and email it to your self on a gmail or yahoo mail msn mail if you have that when you walk into the embassy to get your passport back speeds up the process sometimes by days as they proff that you are who you say you are
get the phone numbers for the credit reporting agencies here http://www.ecosea.com/eco/HTM/Travel%20planer.htm

have fun Vietnam is very safe except for the traffic! Reply to this
