I read that there have been a lot of terrorist attacks in Bali and Thailand where I am planning to go in December. Can anyone provide some info both on how safe it really is (I think the govt website tries to scare you) and if the weather really is as rainy as they say in December in Bali.

Properly, I think all those things are true! You should find other places for your trip suggested: Vietnam, Lao, Cambodia... Some of them are very safe, and sound good!

Thailand is one of the safest countries in southeast Asia. They have had some problems in the far south but it doesn't generally involve tourist areas. As for Bali there have been A FEW terrorist bombings of tourist bars and nightclubs. Do not let them put you off holidaying there. You might as well say don't come to America because there have been some terrorist attacks there. Search Google or other search engines for when the Bali bombings occurred. Tens of thousands of people visit Bali every year without any problems at all. Reply to this

I agree with Scary Israel,Last time i went to Bali was on the last april..was great with 5 of my friends from Canada...we had a good time,no trouble, many other young travelers,it just sooo fun..people are lot more friendly then in other places like Thailand,Laos,or Cambodia..the culture of Balinese are very special, you should try learn a bit of traditional dance as well then keep it as one of your best memory in one of the best place in the world..

BALI is no more dangerous than taking the underground in London or NY! There has just been too much negative media especially from the Australian press it really is not fair on the Balinese who have struggled through the last two bombings they need your tourist dollar so please go back .. and make them smile we go a few times a year and you just keep away from the main busiest tourists drags they are horrible anyway and not the true Bali. Having said that the security has all been stepped up as a precaution anyway. Weather is unpredictable worldwide! It will be hot. Reply to this

Thanks I appreciate the responses! We have already bought our tickets to Bali and Thailand so they WILL be getting our dollar! Just worried that two young blonde girls by ourselves over there could be an issue. We are also trying to figure out the cheapest way besides Air Asia to get to Phuket from Bali without having to stay the night in Kuala Lumpur... Reply to this

If you are not in rush with your trip planning,i think the cheapest way is travel down from Phuket to Penang-malaysia by train then take air asia flight to Sumatra,See some orang utans for few days then flight up to Bali..I thought Just another option, beside you spent your money for holiday, you also could pick up some positive experience on your travel.Usually more you see more things you'll know, one of my friend from London had told me that he felt more safe in Indonesia then being at his home town....so,i said Never try, never know...!!!So what,if you're blonde girls??later on your travel you will see many blond girls around and at this time even some of asian girls are blonde too... :-)

Keep smiling... Reply to this

Just been to Bali, had a blast. You really have nothing to worry about. People spreading the 'T' word all the time allows those crazies to win. Just enjoy your travels and forget those people. How many time before 9/11 did people here even think of the 'T' factor when planning vacations? Not many I'm sure......

Have a good time......

Just left Bali and I have to say "No Worries!" In the news the 2 people left responsible for the bombings have one more appeal before the face the firing squad. Talking to locals they aboslutely hate and do not condone what happened. The reason those 2 got caught was because the locals teamed together and worked with the police. It brought the economy to a hault so bad that any little thing that comes up people do tell. Honestly the people in Indonesia are very nice. I will say like anywhere else use your best judgement. Check out my blog for things to do in Indonesia. Bali is okay but it the country has way more to offer. Gili Tarwanga(sp?) was my favorite for diving and partying. 😊 Reply to this
