I need help in planning a visit to Viet Nam and Cambodia
16 years ago, August 28th 2007 No: 1 Msg: #18606
Hi, we are three middle age women, one 30 something, and one 11 year old boy. We need help in planning where to go and how to get there in Viet Nam and Cambodia (perhaps Thailand as well). We have 14 days in the countries (travel time excluded). We especially need help in planning the internal flights and how to coordinate the days with our international flights. We are well traveled and are pretty adventurous. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Reply to this

I would suggest simply buying a good guide book; from what I've gathered in planning my trip internal flights are no problem, lots of them and many different airlines. It's also easy to book hotels on-line (just google hotels/hanoi for eg) and they usually have airport pick up, although taxis are cheap. The cafes will also have all sorts of trips and transport options posted on bulletin boards, and hotels offer day and multi-day trips also. I wouldn't overplan if I were you, the traveler's grapevine is very valuable and of course up to date! My own plan is to fly into hanoi from bangkok sept 26 ($300CDN) and be back in bangkok for my flt home to vancouver by nov 2: that's the plan! OKOK, I do want to go to Hoi An (for clothes, food, and beaches) and Hue (the old capital) Reply to this

Hi Ladies, firstly I want to say all the best from a new member
Actually, I'm from Vietnam, I'm verry happy to know that you are verry interested in taking a visit to my country.

What to take:
You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage; therefore it is in your own interest to pack as lightly as possible. We suggest you keep your luggage weight down to a maximum of 20 kg with a reasonable daypack for the treks and day tours. We also recommend sandals or sports shoes for walking on beaches and daily use.

Before you leave home complete the following checklist:

 Lightweight and quick dry clothing is most appropriate for the summer months and warmer clothing for the winter months; sun hat; swimming costume.
 Travel Documents: Passport, visa, Travel Insurance, Air Tickets.
 Health requirements and travel insurance arranged.
 Flashlight/Torch, alarm clock, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, personal first aid kit, personal toiletries.
 Money: Us dollars or travelers cheques and/or credit card.
 Raincoat or umbrella (winter months only).
 Cable lock or padlock for luggage.
Joining instructions:
As you pass through immigration and customs at Noi Bai International airport, Hanoi you will be met by our guide and driver and transferred to your hotel.
PLEASE NOTE: The hotels listed in this dossier are the standard properties for this trip. However these are subject to availability at time of booking. In the case of any or all these hotels not being available we will make every reasonable effort to substitute accommodation of similar standard

A good way to start to prepare for your trip by reading guide books for the countries you are thinking of visiting. The Lonely Planet, Footprints, and Moon books are especially good useful.

Also, I invite you to see the "Thailand & Laos" and "Indochina" sections of Our Travel Journals website www.evcal.org with the descriptions and photos of the trips my wife and I took to those areas in 2005 and 2002.
