Hello,

My wife and me from India will be travelling Malaysia during Saturday, 25th August to Saturday 1st September 2007. I need your advise, tips on following plan. Please guide me or suggest any changes if you find.

We thought of staying 2 nights at Langkawi, 1 night at Penang, 2 nights at Genting and 2 nights at Kuala lampur, We will be travelling in the same order as some of my Friends advised me to avoid Genting on weekends so we are visting Langkawi, Penang first then coming to Genting, KL and catching return Flight from KL to India on Saturday 1st Sept.

We thought of flying by Air Asia from KL to Langkawi, what is suggested mode of transport between Langkawi to Penang Boat/Ferry or Air Asia? How much time it takes by Boat? Some friends suggested to do either Langkawi or Penang for 2 days as according to them both are similar and do something else (I don't know what) for 1 day.

The places to visit in KL are KL twin tower, KL tower, Petaling Street, China Town, Bintang walk, Dataran Merdeka, Batu Caves, Central Market, National History Museum etc.

Please suggest same for other places. I will do hotel booking on net, please suggest nice hotels, prices around 150-200 Ringgit per night.

Thanks & Regards. Reply to this

For something romantic, you should visit the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur in the evening after dark. There's a park behind the towers with a huge water feature. In the middle of this 'lake' is a small grassy isalnd where you can lie back and gaze up at the lights of the beautiful towers. Lots of locals do this too and I have to say it was one of my favourite experiences of Malaysia on my visit last year with my hubby. You can also get free tickets for the Petronas Towers skywalk in the ground floor of the towers themseves but be sure to go early in the morning as tickets often run out. You only get to go about one third of the way up the towers but it's good for a view of the city.

I can also recommend the Treeker Lodge in KL if you don't mind staying in a hostel. The double rooms were lovely and modern and the staff were excellent.

We spent a few days in beautiful Langkawi too but be warned that there is no public transport. You can hire a small car very cheaply though and make sure you go up on the awesome cable car there. It has to be one of the most amazing feats of engineering you'll ever se!

Have a wonderful time while you're there - the people of Malaysia are so warm and welcoming that I'm sure you'll enjoy every moment .

aw man you missed "merdeka" their independence day celebration. anyway, hope you and your wife have a nice time there. i've been to malaysia on a business trip, no r&r unfortunately, but i've been hearing nice things about that country, especially their transportation system, and malaysia is on my shortlist of travel plans.
