Hey,am thinking of doing some sort of trek when I get to either Vietname/Cambodia/Laos or Thailand.
I have walking sandles (jesus sandles) and am wondering if they are sufficient for trekking in the jungle or should i bring my boots as well (the only problem there is the fact that they are really heavy and my bag is smallish)
Any suggestions appreciated!
Cheers
Reply to this I'd take two pairs of footwear: sandles and light hikers/running shoes. For trekking it's normally better to have something that covers your whole foot and has better support, but for everything else you'll likely be wearing just sandles, so its nice to have a pair of shoes that aren't heavy to carry in your bag.
Reply to this I'm leaving for Cambodia/Vietnam and possibly Laos for a 3 week stint on Thurs so I thought about your question too.
I am taking my trekking shoes/boots. Trust me you will need them, especially when going off the beaten track.
You will also need to take some slip ons/sandals when you'll be visiting temples.
Footnote: If you plan to go through jungles, always follow marked paths. Certain parts of vietnam and cambodia still have active land mines
Reply to this I have a pair of Keen sandals which have lots of upper leather and good solid rubber soles; I am taking these to Vietnam as well as a pair of thick-soled flip-flops (Ocean reef). I have hiked in the Leens, very durable and solid!

Suggest you take a pair of good walking/running shoes, preferably with ruber soles and dirt-colored tops.
