A question about finding a job in thailand for about a month.
I am travelling with my brother and am currently in Australia. I am here for about 2 more weeks before heading to Indonesia for 3 weeks. I was wondering if I could find work teaching english in Thailand (Bangkok?) and if I had to get any sort of certifications or permits to do so. Or if anybody knows any places I could check to find work. Thanks!
Reply to this What is your country of origin as this will effect your visa?
Reply to this My country of origin is the US, so I am a native English speaker.
Reply to this Being a native English speaker means you can talk, teaching language requires another set of complex skills. If you are unqualified you will just be ripping people off and creating a stigma for other legitimate teachers that follow. Since that would be a morally reprehensible act I will assume you ARE qualified and therefore I suggest you contact your T>E>S>L Association for job prospects.
Asia has suffered patiently the horde of college degree in something completely irrelevant slash uneducated native speaker posing as teachers for decades but I think their patience ran out ten years ago. A course in RSA "Teaching English as a second language" is a sound undertaking. Thailand is a forgiving culture but they are very severe with breaches of their laws. Most pot smokers don't realize it means jail or even execution in major amount cases.....working without a permit would be a risky thing to do....call their consulate and ask about working visas.
I sincerely hope this helps you find direction.
Reply to this Yeah I have researched the TESL certifications and realize that with my current travel plans already in progress it may be hard to get the courses necessary for the certificate. I think that I will just have to figure something out...thanks!
