We're going to be travelling through Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand October to December and are trying to work out what jabs we need. Would anyone recommend having japanese b enchephalitis?

Hi, I am going to China and Tibet for 6 months and my German Doctor called one of the best tropical institutes in Europe and they said I would need Japanese Encephalitis and rabbies vaccination. Hope this helps you. You could also contact the CDC (Center of Disease Control in Atlanta) to find out more specifics. Have a great trip! Maria B. Reply to this

You could also contact the CDC (Center of Disease Control in Atlanta) or the embassies of the countries you want to visit. They usually provide information about necessary information for travelers. For the Jap. Enc. and Rabbies I had to have three inoculations of each, but you can have them usually on the same day. They have to take as follows. Day 0 (first inoculation), then day 7 (second inoculation), and the third one either on day 21 or 28. Hope this helps you. Have a great trip! Maria B. Reply to this

I have been doing the vaccination game as well! I have opted out of the Japanese Encephalitus, partially because I am living in japan and the way they do it I do not have enough time for the vaccine before I leave. Before researching for my big trip I had no idea what it even was, and safely went through southern vietnam, cambodia, thailand, philippines, and bali without any trouble from anything. As I prepare for my next trip through Malaysian Borneo, Laos, Northern Vietnam, China, Nepal, and India, I am taking more precautions since I am going for a much longer time, malaria being my biggest fear. I also was recommended to get the Typhoid vaccination. Overall the best info I have received is take measures to not get bitten, ie bug spray with deet, spraying your clothes with permefrin, and recently read that the B1 vitamin also helps prevent against getting bitten. Granted, I have not gone too far off the beaten path. Looking at the cdc helps and also traveldoctor.co.uk (I think thats the link) is very helpful. I guess my opinion (based on my research and consulting some physicians) do what will make you the most comfortable traveling. Happy travels! Sounds like a great trip is the works. Reply to this

The mosquitos which carry the jap encephilitis are only around after the rainy season. My partner and I are going from August-October, and technically that is the rainy season, but im not risking it as jap encephilitis is a pretty nasty disease.
Casey Lary, you aren't setting a good example with idiotic comments like 'I had no idea what it even was' it makes you sound dull and stupid.

If you catch Jap Enceph, your brain will swell, there is no cure and you may become brain dead.
Ruth and David, have it, theres no point in risking it.
Have a great trip :D
