I'm heading for Rajasthan in September. I'm going there for a month. It appears that malaria can be a problem in India.
Wow! I messed-up the title... Anyway, mosquitos are more abundant at different times and places. I know by not taking one of the host of malaria drugs is a risk, but I'm wondering about the odds if I use repellant and netting. Is Rajasthan a hotbed for mosquitos? It is dry, but they built some canals...hmmm. I'm asking for opinions based on experiences over there. Any opinions?
Reply to this Hi !!
In my openion, If you are visiting rajasthan and you have risk of malaria then to avoid the risk you can take 3 star or higher hotels and take precautions about visiting untidy places or you can avoide to take unhealthy food. for the precaution you can take malaria drugs with you.
hope it will help you in making your decision better.
tk care !!

Reply to this Hi Adam Mike,
You're more likely to be struck by lightning than get malaria in Rajasthan. The nasty mossies prefer to live in the South where there's lots of lovely stagnant water to breed in. The drier dessert regions have not yet made it to the Mosquito Lonely Planet edition.
I've spent over a year there & personally speaking, the side effects of the pills are much worse than the benefits they provide. The Jungle Formula stuff is adequate - buy it over there though, the brand they sell in Europe seems to be made from some sort of pheremone that attracts Asian mossies, rather annoyingly!
As Alia says, you're going to be healthier if you take care of what you eat & drink - avoid meat (unless you've hunted/killed & cooked it yourself) & remember - Alchohol kills germs. Have at least a couple of beers everyday & you'll be fine.
Happy Trails.
.C. :-)
