I am traveling august-december 2007. I am thinking of spending a few weeks at the end of my trip volunteering in India. There are so many companies/organizations out there, how does one choose who to go with? Does anyone have any experience with volunteering in India? Any info/suggestions would be great!!! If you want to volunteer in a small IT company in Mumbai or Pune, then let me know.

Cheers,

Hi there,
I volunteered in India in Delhi working at a slum school teaching. I went through an organisation called gapguru to do this but had to pay, however when i was there I realised you can do volnteering without having to go through one of these organisations. In Delhi they have a local monthly 'whats on' and in the back of there is a list of NGOs asking for volunteers with emails and who to contact to set something up. When I go back i will just use this approach to do something. I am sure other big cities would have something similar.

You need to figure out what type of volunteer work you want to do also??

I am travelling in India from Mis sept-oct. Feel free to message me if you need more advice. Reply to this

Hello Casey,

Most probably you are somewhere 'high and dry' in India, enjoying your voluntary work. I'm aware posting this message a bit late ;-)
If you would consider to travel down South, AMAIDI Volunteering in India might have interesting volunteering options for you.
Check out www.amaidi.org and don't forget to write me an email how you are doing at the moment!

Friendly greetings,

Camille
