I am traveling august-december 2007. I am thinking of spending a few weeks at the end of my trip volunteering in India. There are so many companies/organizations out there, how does one choose who to go with? Does anyone have any experience with volunteering in India? Any info/suggestions would be great!!!

I am travelling to india in september, it will be my first time travelling & i'm a bit scared! were about will you be going? I'm looking to volunteer in delhi but as you said there are soo many companies/organizations...I dont know were to start!! help?? any help would be useful!!

I volunteered in India in Delhi working at a slum school teaching. I went through an organisation called gapguru to do this but had to pay,however when i was there I realised you can do volnteering without having to go through one of these organisations. In Delhi they have a local monthly 'whats on' and in the back of there is a list of NGOs asking for volunteers with emails and who to contact to set something up. When I go back i will just use this approach to do something. I am sure other big cities would have something similar.
You need to figure out what type of volunteer work you want to do also??
